Senior Designer

Reports to: Associate

Location: Vancouver

Through a skilled team of experts, we offer end‑to‑end design services, encompassing programming, concept & envisioning, brand ideation, interior design, FF&E selection, procurement and coordination, and art and styling services.

Role

We seek to fill the role of Senior Interior Designer with a proven track record executing remarkable design solutions within Hospitality, Mixed‑Use and Multi‑Residential project types. Working closely with the team’s Associate and other team members, you will lead the creation of remarkable design deliverables that have the Ste Marie standard of design, while meeting the strategic needs of our clients – able to communicate this effectively, internally and externally.

You will work with the team, providing mentorship and guidance to more junior members of staff, ensuring the team is working creatively and efficiently. Your work ethic, combined with your commitment to collaboration and learning, will play an integral role in the ideation and execution of conceptually‑driven excellence in design.

Responsibilities
  • As Project Lead, work closely with the Creative Director, Associate, Project Managers, Designers and Technical team in all areas of a project, and particularly through creative development.
  • Establish design narrative and programming, develop, and execute design in line with project objectives.
  • Lead conceptual design and technical design to create comprehensive presentations, drawings & specifications.
  • Resolve complete technical and design issues with the team to produce innovative and practical solutions.
  • Provide leadership and support the ongoing development of strict internal procedures regarding creative direction, presentation and drawing standards, document issuance, and time tracking.
  • Lead on creative process, direction, design intent and quality assurance for each submission for all design and documentation phases.
  • Lead all design and creative internal and external meetings during all phases of the project.
  • Attend site visits and resolve issues that arise during construction.
  • Support the execution of contract administration, including review of Site Instructions and key Submittal reviews when necessary.
  • Understand the full extent of FF&E specification and procurement process and adhere to outlined budgets, supporting the design integration with the procurement team.
  • Train, develop, and support junior team members and cross‑functional teams.
  • Stay on task and effectively manage time to work independently on projects as assigned.
  • Openly communicate workload and support needs within the Studio setting.
  • With the support of the Project Manager, ensure deliverables are in scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the financial performance of the project by ensuring that the project team takes accountability for the reconciliation of budgeted hours against resources spent towards creative work.
  • Ensure all creative deliverables are fully considered and developed in response to the project envisioning, while mentoring and directing the team towards executing the best and most effective work at every stage, striving for the highest quality creative solutions.
  • Professional, client service‑oriented and positive representation of the Studio, fostering and cultivating good client, vendor, and collaborator relationships, navigating nuance.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 8+ years professional experience in Interior Design, with specialization in Hospitality, Mixed‑Use, and Multi‑Residential design.
  • Completion of a certified Interior Design, Building Technology or Architectural program at a professionally recognized institution.
  • Exceptional written and spoken English language communication skills.
  • Exceptional presentation skills.
  • Excellence in AutoCAD, understanding of drawing set up and coordination requirements for large‑scale projects.
  • Excellence in Sketchup, Enscape.
  • Proficient in M365.
  • Experience in Figma, Fohlio, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit considered an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of local building codes and bylaws and a demonstrated understanding of building technology, building materials, specifications and construction techniques.
  • Deep understanding of interior design detailing, construction and millwork joinery practices, and fluent in technical requirements for both hospitality and mixed‑use / multi‑residential design sectors.
  • Deep understanding of design stages and deliverables and level of detailing for each stage.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and coordination efforts.
  • Strong organizational skills and with the flexibility to work on multiple projects at the same time, while managing own time and responsibilities as well as those of supporting team members.
  • Ability to stay on task and effectively manage workload to lead the project team.
  • Participate in collaborative relationships across the firm, with internal and external clients, and with other key partners.
  • Passionate about design and motivated to execute compelling and thoughtful projects.
  • Creative and technically inclined, demonstrated through a strong creative and technical portfolio.
Role Information
