Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to lead a nuclear I&C design team, interfacing with discipline engineers and clients to meet project requirements. You will develop specifications, data sheets, and wiring diagrams for modernization of plant control systems, while guiding less experienced engineers and coordinating with vendors.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from ABET- or Canadian ABET-accredited program.
• 7+ years in design engineering for process control systems; nuclear experience preferred.
• Experience with DCS, PLC, and HMI in power plants.
• Ability to review drawings and interface with vendors.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of nuclear I&C engineers and mentor junior staff.

Description

Our electric power generation clients, both in Canada and US, are updating and replacing the power plant control systems with new digital control systems. This is expanding work in the Instrumentation and Controls Engineering group.

This is a senior level design engineering position that offers a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in nuclear Instrument and Controls Engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity to advance your career. You will lead a team of nuclear I&C Engineers and interface with the discipline engineers and designers on the Project Team and with the client to ensure all client requirements are satisfied.

You will work on major process controls engineering projects for upgrades and modifications to nuclear power plants in the following areas:

• Digital Systems -- PLC, DCS, Touchscreen displays, network switches and control systems
• Functional Requirement and Procurement Specifications and software categorization reports for instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power plants
• Process instrumentation replacement evaluation reports and nuclear modification packages
• Prepare instrument data sheets (IDS) and instrument calibration sheets (IDS)
• Prepare documentation for design input for drawing production including cable block diagrams, connection wiring diagrams and schematics
• Interface with vendors and prepare equipment purchase specifications
• Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner to meet client requirements
• Attend client meetings and perform site walkdowns to ensure the client is satisfied with our work product
• Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced nuclear instrumentation and controls design engineers

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

Essential skills and experience:

• A BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board-accredited undergraduate program or a US based ABET-accredited program
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in design engineering for process control systems; Experience in design engineering for nuclear power plant control system is preferred
• Experience with power plant instrumentation and controls systems design for Candu reactors, including DCS for turbine, control, feedwater control, and data display.
• Technically knowledgeable of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems to execute systems design
• Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.

Valued, but Not Required:

• P.Eng license
• Active Ontario Power Generation (OPG) security clearance

Compensation Range

$111,304 - $153,043
