Purpose:

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer. Our team includes world-class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The candidate will lead small to medium projects for the Instrumentation & Control discipline; as well as, interface well with the customer and coordinate with the rest of the project team.

  • Take responsibility for the Control engineering and design team assigned, and their design output, quality, cost, and schedule requirements for specific projects.
  • Support the Technical Integrity role for the Instrument & Control (I&C) discipline.
  • Ensure all engineering and design work performed adjusts to quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Ensure all design work is safe and carried out in a safe manner.
  • Ensure all design work conforms to the codes and standards used by the client, or to agreed industry standards.
  • The candidate must be based in Sarnia, or available to relocate on their own to Sarnia.

Self-motivated individuals with a desire to solve complex engineering problems, and show effective team leadership and communication skills will be ideally suitable for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in control system engineering, design, implementation, programming, configuration, commissioning, testing and troubleshooting in support of Control Systems for O&G operations (upstream, midstream or downstream; onshore and offshore), Chemical Facilities, Manufacturing Facilities, etc. along with all associated control system devices, computers, communications, networks, endpoint devices, and instrumentation. (ICS e.g.: Distributed Control Systems "DCS", Programmable Logic Controller systems "PLC", and SCADA).
  • Provide technical expertise in consultation, evaluation, recommendation, and development or review of specifications, work scopes, bid proposals, test procedures, alarm response procedures, commissioning plans, and vendor reports.
  • Provide hands on control system Support, including digital devices or systems with communications interface to control systems (e.g. inverters, drives, and protection relays for electrical power systems).
  • Manage/Lead projects and perform multiple responsibilities of controls engineering support in parallel and oversee vendor/contractor support when needed.
  • Provide support and leadership to meet ICS Cyber Security requirements as well as other regulatory compliance requirements, projects, initiatives, and activities relative to industrial controls and control systems.
  • Perform evaluation of control system and instrumentation specifications for projects and new plant construction.
  • Control Systems may include (but not limited to the following vendors): Honeywell, Schneider, Emerson, GE, ABB, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Modicon, Wonderware.

What you will bring:

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Senior-level, professional relevant engineering/technologist experience (post-school) including but not limited to directly related Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) experience working on related industrial applications.
  • Strong Experience with Industrial Control Systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), SCADA systems and Safety Instrumented System (SIS); and associated control system devices, computers, communications, networks, endpoint devices, and instrumentation.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry advances in control system monitoring, testing and analysis of control equipment; and controls theory.
  • Strong technical leadership skills and strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Experience and foundation with Ethernet network switches and serial digital communications, including third party communication protocols (Profibus/Profinet, Modbus, DNP, AB-PLC).
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and assignments concurrently and manage deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to successfully work both independently and in a team environment to identify errors, pinpoint root causes, and devise solutions with minimal oversight.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Post-secondary education in a field related to Instrumentation & Control.
  • Senior direct Instrumentation & Control design and engineering experience .
  • Experience with control loop tuning.
  • Strong computer skills foundation as relates to operating systems, controls system software, servers, networks, and communications software.
  • PEO registration or ability to register with PEO.
  • Functional Safety Certification.

For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $108,349 - $161,479.

Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
