Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Senior II Software Development in Test to automate the SDLC from testing through deployment. You will tackle deployment issues, build automated test frameworks, and define test plans for microservices across multiple environments.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years of experience, strong Python/Pytest skills, and knowledge of Perl and Go. Familiarity with Debian packaging, QEMU, Linux, and CI/CD tools is required. The role sits with the Platform Engineering Team in Compute, Ottawa.

Qualifications

• 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or its equivalent.
• Proficient in Python and Pytest; working knowledge of Perl and Golang.
• Experience debugging across environments, x86 vs ARM, native or emulated.
• Knowledge of Debian packaging and QEMU acceleration (TCG vs KVM).
• Strong Linux fundamentals, performance tuning, Bash scripting.
• Experience with automation tools and CI/CD like Jenkins, Github Actions, SaltStack.
• Understanding of SDLC processes and SLO monitoring/alerting.

As a Senior II Software Development in Test, you will automate the SDLC pipeline from testing through deployment and validation. As a Senior II Software Development Engineer in Test, you will be responsible for:

• Investigating and troubleshooting any deployment-related issues, identifying root causes and providing recommendations for solutions in various environments.
• Developing and maintaining automated test frameworks for code changes, including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests.
• Creating and maintaining test plans and test cases for microservices, ensuring they cover relevant scenarios and edge cases.
• Collaborating in integration testing with other engineering groups and suggesting improvements to various testing environments.
• Investigating requirements for safe deployment and rollback strategies, and verifying all requirements during the deployment process.
• Writing and maintaining scripts to automate platform service deployments.

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or its equivalent.
• Have Python and Pytest knowledge along with good understanding of modern testing methodologies along with working knowledge of Perl and golang.
• Have experience debugging across environments reproducing a failing test locally on x86 vs. ARM (native or emulated), isolating whether a failure is arch-specific.
• Possess knowledge of Debian packaging and QEMU's TCG vs KVM acceleration.
• Have good Linux fundamentals, especially around performance tuning along with experience in Bash and scripting fundamentals.
• Possess experience with automation tools and frameworks such as Jenkins, Github Actions, SaltStack.
• Have an understanding of modern software development life cycle processes and service level objective monitoring and alerting.

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary for this position ranges from 120,400 - 216,600 CAD/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
