Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is growing its Hydropower team in Newfoundland, offering a hybrid role based in St. Johns with travel to project sites.

You will design BoP electrical systems, perform studies, and develop specs for MV/LV equipment, supporting project delivery from concept to commissioning. The ideal candidate holds a university degree in electrical engineering with P.Eng., 7–15 years of relevant experience, and knowledge of North American codes.

Qualifications

• University degree in Electrical Engineering and P.Eng. designation.
• 7-15 years of electrical design experience in power generation/utilities/industrial sectors; hydropower experience is a plus.
• Working knowledge of North American codes and standards (CSA, IEEE, ANSI).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; AutoCAD and/or Revit experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Prepare conceptual and detailed designs for hydroelectric BoP electrical systems, including MV/LV distribution, motor controls, grounding, and cabling.
• Perform and review electrical studies (protection coordination, short circuit, load flow, grounding, arc flash) and document results.
• Develop technical specifications and design packages for major electrical equipment (MV switchgear, GCBs, LV equipment, transformers, IPB, AIS/GIS).
• Prepare drawings and documentation (one‑lines, relay/metering diagrams, wiring diagrams, BOMs, cable schedules).
• Coordinate interfaces for auxiliary building services (lighting, fire alarm, security, HVAC electrical interfaces).
• Support project delivery activities (estimating, proposals, design studies, RFIs, contractor coordination, commissioning support).
• Maintain project documentation and ensure compliance with AtkinsRéalis safety, environmental, QA/QC requirements.
