Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to join our Environmental Services team, with flexibility to be based in Waterloo or Ottawa, Ontario. The role involves delivering high-quality hydrogeology solutions and collaborating with expert teams.

You will lead projects, develop hydrogeological models, oversee field investigations, and prepare client-ready reports while mentoring junior staff. Opportunities for travel and professional growth are available.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 20 years of hydrogeology experience in consulting or regulatory settings.
  • Professional registration (P.Geo. or P.Eng.) is required or eligible.
  • Post-secondary degree (M.Sc. preferred) in Geoscience or Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Promote health and safety culture within the program.
  • Prepare proposals, work plans and budgets; manage projects.
  • Develop preliminary conceptual hydrogeological models for field design.
  • Design and oversee hydrogeology field investigations, including intrusive tasks.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on various hydrogeology studies.
  • Prepare technical reports and client presentations with findings and recommendations.
  • Perform QA/QC of deliverables and supervise field activities.
  • Travel to field sites as required.

Stantec has an opportunity for a Senior Hydrogeologist to join our Environmental Services team. The position will ideally be in Waterloo or Ottawa, Ontario, but there is flexibility to be based out of other hydrogeology-centered offices. Your Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Hydrogeologist, you will play a key role in a wide variety of projects and must be able to work within multi-disciplinary teams. The role will involve managing a multi-discipline scope of work within a team of hydrologists, hydrogeologists, and geochemists and interacting directly with clients. Strong quantitative hydrogeology skills are required with the ability to interact with groundwater modeling and geochemical specialists.

Primary responsibilities will involve performing key tasks to support/lead hydrogeology projects or project components.

  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Program
  • Prepare proposals, develop work plans/budgets and manage projects/tasks
  • Develop preliminary conceptual hydrogeological models to support field program design
  • Design and oversee implementation of hydrogeology field investigations, including intrusive investigations
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams on baseline and impact assessment projects, feasibility studies, groundwater and surface water assessments, groundwater flow and transport models, and contaminant investigations
  • Prepare technical reports and client presentations summarizing project work, findings, and recommendations.
  • Perform QA/QC of technical documents/deliverables
  • Travel as required to various field sites; overnight travel sometimes required
  • Demonstrate sound application of established practices, standards, and guidelines
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Ability to meet a strong demand for high-quality, organized, and consistent results
  • Demonstrates strong initiative and is capable of independent action with the ability to make informed decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and advanced technical report writing skills
  • Ability to mentor junior and intermediate staff
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in balancing immediate and long-term work with varying priorities and deadlines
  • Strong business development, client management, communication, and financial management skills are essential
  • Proficient computer skills are a must, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid driver’s license is required for business travel
  • Experience with numerical groundwater flow and transport modeling is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of mine and environmental regulations and policies is considered an asset
  • General knowledge in groundwater chemistry for mine-related projects an asset
Education and Experience

Post-secondary educational background, ideally M.Sc., specializing in a Geoscience or Engineering program with an emphasis on hydrogeology

Minimum of 20 years of relevant working experience in consulting or regulatory environment, regularly using and analyzing hydrogeologic data

Professional registration or eligibility is required (P.Geo. or P.Eng.)

Valid Driver’s License required

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.

Pay Range
  • Locations Outside of Lower Mainland -- BC & Various locations in Ontario-$119,600.00 - $169,600.00 Annually
  • Locations in Lower Mainland -- BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$103,300.00 - $153,300.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
