Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to join our Environmental Services team in Ontario, with preferred bases in Waterloo or Ottawa and flexibility for other hydrogeology offices. You will lead multi-disciplinary projects, design field investigations, and mentor junior staff while delivering high-quality hydrogeology solutions.

Required MSc in Geoscience/Engineering (hydrogeology) and professional registration or eligibility (P.Geo./P.Eng.).

Qualifications

Strong hydrogeology background with ability to manage multi-disciplinary projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and technical report writing.
Professional registration or eligibility (P.Geo./P.Eng.) required or eligible.

Responsibilities

Lead hydrogeology projects within a multi-disciplinary team of hydrologists, hydrogeologists and geochemists.
Develop conceptual hydrogeological models and design field investigations.

The position will ideally be in Waterloo or Ottawa, Ontario, but there is flexibility to be based out of other hydrogeology-centered offices. Your Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Hydrogeologist, you will play a key role in a wide variety of projects and must be able to work within multi-disciplinary teams. The role will involve managing a multi-discipline scope of work within a team of hydrologists, hydrogeologists, and geochemists and interacting directly with clients. Strong quantitative hydrogeology skills are required with the ability to interact with groundwater modeling and geochemical specialists.

Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Program
Prepare proposals, develop work plans/budgets and manage projects/tasks
Develop preliminary conceptual hydrogeological models to support field program design
Design and oversee implementation of hydrogeology field investigations, including intrusive investigations
Work with multi-disciplinary teams on baseline and impact assessment projects, feasibility studies, groundwater and surface water assessments, groundwater flow and transport models, and contaminant investigations
Prepare technical reports and client presentations summarizing project work, findings, and recommendations.
Perform QA/QC of technical documents/deliverables
Travel as required to various field sites; overnight travel sometimes required
Demonstrate sound application of established practices, standards, and guidelines

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Ability to meet a strong demand for high-quality, organized, and consistent results
Demonstrates strong initiative and is capable of independent action with the ability to make informed decisions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and advanced technical report writing skills
Ability to mentor junior and intermediate staff
Strong organizational and time management skills in balancing immediate and long-term work with varying priorities and deadlines
Strong business development, client management, communication, and financial management skills are essential
Proficient computer skills are a must, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Valid driver’s license is required for business travel
Experience with numerical groundwater flow and transport modeling is considered an asset
Knowledge of mine and environmental regulations and policies is considered an asset
General knowledge in groundwater chemistry for mine-related projects an asset

Education and Experience

Post-secondary educational background, ideally M.Sc., specializing in a Geoscience or Engineering program with an emphasis on hydrogeology

Minimum of 20 years of relevant working experience in consulting or regulatory environment, regularly using and analyzing hydrogeologic data

Professional registration or eligibility is required (P.Geo. or P.Eng.)

Valid Driver’s License required

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.

Pay Range

Locations Outside of Lower Mainland -- BC & Various locations in Ontario-$119,600.00 - $169,600.00 Annually
Locations in Lower Mainland -- BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$103,300.00 - $153,300.00 Annually

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
