Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Senior HR Business Partner serves as an HR leader across construction and manufacturing operations while directing a team of 3 HR Business Partners / Generalists. This role functions as the senior HR advisor for assigned business units, designing and executing workforce strategies that drive organizational objectives and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Business Partnership
- Execute HR strategy and operations for designated client groups and resolve complex escalations from direct reports
- Collaborate with leaders to design and implement HR initiatives that advance operational priorities
- Deliver expert consultation on critical HR matters including workforce planning, talent management, employee / labour relations, and regulatory compliance
- Resolve complex employee relations challenges, conduct and oversee workplace investigations
- Provide coaching to supervisors on performance management and progressive discipline
- Drive union contract compliance, manage grievance processes, and foster productive labour relations
- Spearhead special programs and HR initiatives
- Implement targeted engagement strategies for industrial and construction workforce
- Establish and govern consistent application of HR policies across multiple sites
- Direct collaboration with specialized HR teams to deliver integrated solutions
- Craft effective communications strategies for diverse workforce audiences
- Evaluate program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement
- Provide direction and mentorship to 3 HR Business Partners / Generalists
- Establish escalation protocols and resolve complex HR issues from team members
Cross-Functional Responsibilities
- Ensure continuity of Payroll and Benefits functions through backup support
- Assist with recruitment for various critical positions
- Establish collaborative partnerships with other departments on enterprise-wide initiatives
- Perform various administrative functions as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business, or related field
- 5-10 years of progressive HR experience with 2+ years of leadership in manufacturing / construction
- Demonstrated success in union environments preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge of employment legislation relevant to industrial and construction settings in Ontario and the US
- Understanding of manufacturing / construction operations and business drivers
- Advanced conflict resolution and problem-solving capabilities
- Established credibility with operations leaders and frontline staff
- Superior communication and influencing skills across diverse audiences
- Strategic yet pragmatic approach to business challenges
- Demonstrated versatility in both corporate and industrial environments
Working Conditions
- Primary office location with regular travel to sites across Ontario and US
