Job summary

WSP in Canada seeks a Senior Health Risk Assessment Specialist to lead multidisciplinary human health and ecological risk assessments across Canada. You will translate scientific evidence into practical strategies that protect people and ecosystems and support sustainable development.

As a guardian of project quality, you will mentor professionals, drive technical leadership in toxicology and exposure assessment, and strengthen client relationships with trusted guidance throughout the project

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/master's/doctoral degree in Toxicology, Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Public Health, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
• Extensive experience leading human health and ecological risk assessments.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian risk assessment frameworks and regulatory processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead human health and ecological risk assessments informing project decisions.
• Provide senior technical direction in toxicology, exposure modelling, and risk characterization.
• Direct multidisciplinary teams integrating environmental science, engineering, hydrogeology, geology, and regulatory expertise.
• Develop risk management strategies for remediation, approvals, and contaminated sites.
• Strengthen client relationships by delivering trusted advice throughout projects.
• Mentor junior risk assessors and grow national practice capabilities.

As a Senior Health Risk Assessment Specialist within WSP's Environmental Risk Assessment practice, you will help shape environmental risk management across Canada. You will provide technical leadership on complex human health and ecological risk assessment projects in the natural resources sector, translating scientific evidence into practical strategies that protect people and ecosystems, support sustainable development, and strengthen environmental decision‑making.

You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project teams, lead multidisciplinary assignments, mentor emerging professionals, and contribute to the continued growth of a nationally connected technical practice.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• A bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Toxicology, Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Public Health, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Extensive progressive experience conducting and leading human health and ecological risk assessments in environmental consulting, industry, or government.
• Demonstrated expertise in Canadian federal and provincial risk assessment frameworks, technical guidance, and regulatory processes.
• Advanced knowledge of toxicology, exposure modelling, fate and transport concepts, risk characterization, and environmental health science.
• Proven ability to lead complex technical projects, budgets, schedules, quality reviews, and multidisciplinary teams toward defensible outcomes.
• Strong technical writing and review capability, including authorship of senior‑level risk assessment reports and clear communication of complex findings.
• Experience building client relationships, developing proposals, supporting strategic planning, and pursuing opportunities that grow technical services.
• A valid driver's licence and the ability to travel periodically to client sites and project locations.

Compensation

• AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $110,600 - $146,500
• MB & ON: $100,900 - $139
