Job summary

Focus on Caring in Calgary is seeking a Senior Health Care Aide to provide compassionate palliative and personal care to clients in Calgary and surrounding area.

This is a full-time, permanent role with English as the language of work. Pay is $20.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay, and Workers' compensation benefits are paid by the employer.

Qualifications

• Experience in providing comfort and personal care in a health setting.
• Ability to administer medications under supervision.
• Strong communication and observation skills.

Responsibilities

• Administer palliative subcutaneous and pain medications as directed by physicians and RNs.
• Provide comfort care including oral hygiene, sponge baths, massages, and special treatments.
• Perform post-mortem care.
• Manage ostomy care: emptying and changing ostomy bags, assessing sites, reporting changes.
• Manage catheter care: emptying and cleaning catheter bags, changing night/day bags, assessing insertion sites.
• Perform bladder irrigation and intermittent catheterization.
• Assess blood glucose with a glucometer and assist with insulin administration under RN guidance.
• Perform wound care using a variety of dressings.
• Perform PEG feeding and change insertion site dressings.
• Administer suppositories and enemas as recommended by physicians.
• Perform other duties consistent with the position.
