Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Advisor, H&S to eliminate injuries and drive top-quartile performance. The role will implement leading practice H&S programs across oil sands operations with sites in Christina Lake, Foster Creek, Sunrise and Christina Lake North.

Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety, you will lead H&S initiatives, develop assurance plans, and maintain safety management plans with site leadership and Deployed Health & Safety teams.

Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Minimum 8 years of Oil & Gas experience in H&S.
  • CSP or CRSP credentials are an asset.
  • Major projects, SAGD operations, and Safety Management Systems experience.
  • We may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret applicable OHS legislation, industry standards & Cenovus H&S program components and worker training requirements.
  • Support and lead H&S programs and initiatives, assisting sites in development of yearly assurance plan.
  • Develop assurance activities for the site and H&S team, monitoring gap closing action plans.
  • Work with site leadership and Deployed Health and Safety team to maintain safety management plans for each entity.
  • Lead safety metrics dashboard development and reporting, tracking trends and performance.
  • Provide support to business unit users for data entry, accuracy, reporting and trends.

About this opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety (H&S), the Senior Advisor, H&S is responsible for eliminating injuries and delivering top quartile performance across the business. This role will facilitate the implementation of leading practice H&S programs throughout field operations.

This position may be located at any of the Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Christina Lake North, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need).

Work Environment

This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation.

All Oil Sands Operations sites have full-service camp facilities and recreational amenities.

Transportation

Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations.

Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB.

Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB.

Christina Lake North is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton.

Sunrise is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton.

What you'll do

  • Support and lead H&S programs and initiatives, assisting sites in development of yearly assurance plan.
  • Develop assurance activities for the site and H&S team, assisting in development and monitoring of gap closing action plans.
  • Work with site leadership and Deployed Health and Safety team to maintain safety management plans for each entity.
  • Lead safety metrics dashboard development and continuous improvement, tracking and communicating performance reports, safety metrics, trends, on a recurring frequency.
  • Provide support to business unit users for entry, accuracy, closure, as well as reporting and trends.
Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry, specializing in the H&S Occupation.
  • Certified Safety Professional or Canadian Registered Safety Professional is an asset.
  • Major project, Well Delivery, SAGD Operations, and Safety Management systems experience.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
