Job summary

EnviroCareers is assisting a growing Canadian environmental consultancy to recruit a GIS Specialist who can deliver high-quality technical work today and help shape a broader GIS practice over time. The role emphasizes senior technical contribution, client-facing guidance, and strategic growth within a small GIS team.

The position is 100% remote (Canada-wide) with about 10% travel. Salary ranges from $110,000 to $130,500 CAD, plus health benefits, RRSP matching, and annual performance bonuses;

Qualifications

• Degree in geomatics, geography, earth sciences, computer science or related field.
• 10+ years GIS experience in environmental consulting or related sectors.
• Advanced Esri technology: ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online; strong data handling.
• Experience with LiDAR, drone-derived data, or related tech is valuable.
• Experience coordinating projects, workloads, or teams.
• Strong client-facing skills and ability to develop proposals.
• Commercial mindset and ability to identify new services.
• Clear written and verbal communication, strong organization.

Responsibilities

• Deliver map production, cartography, spatial analysis, geospatial modelling, and data visualization for complex environmental projects.
• Create, edit, integrate, and maintain shapefiles, file geodatabases, rasters, and related data.
• Plan and execute advanced spatial analyses supporting reclamation, regulatory work, and water stewardship.
• Lead or support visual QA/QC, data governance, templates, and workflows.
• Develop and maintain data standards for governance, security, QA/QC, and mapping consistency.
• Work directly with clients and project leaders to clarify needs, prepare proposals, develop fees, and deliver results.
• Identify, pursue, and help secure new GIS and mapping work, including stand-alone and integrated opportunities.
• Mentor GIS staff and contribute to a collaborative, continuously improving team culture.
