About this opportunity: Cenovus is seeking a Senior Geoscience Technologist to join our Thermal Geoscience Development team. Reporting to the Manager of Foster Creek Geoscience Development, the Geoscience Technologist will collaborate with and support a multidisciplinary team to ensure the achievement of business deliverables related to sustaining development and commercial SAGD drilling activities.

What you’ll do:

1. Support the development, maintenance, troubleshooting and testing of internally developed geo-analytical tools and platforms
2. Work with geologists, geophysicists, and geomodellers to ensure geoscience development objectives are met and manage workflows with regular communication, team meetings, work planning, and opportunity prioritization
3. Support the technical team of Geoscientists via management of geotechnical projects in various software applications, including data curation, loading and quality control, as well as importing/exporting data between programs
4. Verify, refine and improve on geoscience data flows across the company, ensuring data governance rules are applied, such as consistent nomenclature, units, and file types
5. Work with service providers to ensure incoming datasets are in line with Cenovus data standards policies
6. Prepare maps and reports related to reservoir quality, data coverage, and volumetrics
7. Condition data for analytical consumption
8. Develop, maintain, and grow geoscience databases (well, LAS, and core data loading/diagnostics, etc.)

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will meet the following minimum requirements:

1. Legally authorized to work in Canada
2. A minimum of 8+ years of experience in Geoscience or related roles in the oil and gas industry
3. ASET Certification, Technical school diploma or equivalent
4. Experience working with subsurface geoscience data (Wells, tops, core, LAS, SEGY, etc.)
5. Strong knowledge of oil and gas software; experience with Petrel, Geographix, ArcGIS, Generwell, Seisware, Power BI is an asset
6. Basic understanding of Python, SQL, and other programming languages is beneficial
