Job summary

Cinesite Vancouver is seeking an experienced FX artist to design and produce visual effects and water simulations using Houdini, reporting to the FX Supervisor.

You will collaborate with the team across shots, ensuring technical and artistic objectives while maintaining simulation files and optimizing renders within production resources. Hybrid work options may be available to support balance and collaboration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience as an FX artist in animated or live-action projects.
• Expertise in Houdini for fluids, cloth, particles and water simulations.
• Strong understanding of physics, lighting and look development workflows.
• Experience with Solaris/USD workflow and modern raytrace renderers is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create a wide range of stylized visual effects such as fluids, cloth, particles, pyro, magical and rigid body dynamics using Houdini.
• Collaborate with the Supervisor to understand the FX needs of individual shots and sequences in order to achieve technical and artistic objectives.
• Communicate effectively with the supervisor and the production coordinator keeping them apprised of shot progress, technical issues and anticipated challenges.
• Adapt simulations to match the specific 'look' of the film, whether it’s hyper-realistic or highly stylized (Non-Photoreal).
• Organize, manage and maintain the simulation files that have been created.
• Optimize simulations and renders to be efficient Ensure within the production resources and constraints without sacrificing visual quality.
