Job summary

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Functional Analyst (QA) for a 12-month contract in Calgary. The role focuses on QA leadership, requirements analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver quality software solutions.

The candidate will develop test plans, oversee UAT, manage backlogs, and translate business needs into actionable requirements while coordinating with vendors and stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in QA or a related role.
• Experience on a product team with user stories, backlog management and sprints.
• Strong technical acumen with understanding of system architecture, APIs and data integrations.
• Proficiency in SQL, Excel and data visualization software.
• Experience with JavaScript and Python.
• Experience with cloud web-based applications.
• Excellent communication for cross-functional collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Adaptability to evolving priorities and timelines.
• Experience with both agile and waterfall delivery methodologies; proficient with sprints and ceremonies.
• Ability to build strong business and technical relationships.

Responsibilities

• Work with cross-functional teams supporting QA, technical teams and Change Management.
• Develop, execute and oversee test plans and test cases including UAT.
• Support SIT/UAT testing, issue triage and root cause analysis.
• Maintain test documentation, traceability and change tracking.
• Analyze data to identify metrics, KPIs and insights across QA functions.
• Lead stakeholder workshops to gather and validate business requirements.
• Translate business needs into clear functional requirements, liaising with business, technical teams and vendors.
• Manage epics, user stories, tasks and backlog; support SCRUM and project delivery.
• Create end-to-end process diagrams; define to-be state to support design and delivery.
• Identify gaps or enhancements across product delivery and validate vendor design documents.
• Support cross-functional activities; training, communications and readiness planning.

Job description

MatchBox Consulting Group is currently seeking a Senior Functional Analyst (QA) for a 12 month contract role at a client of ours located in Calgary.

Responsibilities

• Work with cross-functional teams; supporting and contributing to Quality Assurance, Technical Teams, Change Management etc.
• Develop test plans and test cases. Execute test cases. Work with stakeholders to develop test cases and oversee UAT.
• Support SIT/UAT testing, issue triage and root cause analysis during design / implementation
• Maintain comprehensive documentation across test cases, test results, maintaining traceability and change
• Analyze and report on data to identify metrics, KPIs and business insights across QA functions
• Lead stakeholder workshops to gather, document and validate business requirements and define functionality scope
• Translate business need into clear and actionable functional requirements; acting as the functional liaison between business and technical team members; as well as vendor
• Manage epics, user stories, tasks and backlog as required, supporting SCRUM and Project Management with delivery
• Establish end-to-end process diagrams; outlining as-is and defining to-be to support the design and delivery of the solution
• Identification of gaps, or opportunities for enhancements or efficiencies across product delivery
• Support and validate vendor design documents, ensuring consistency and completeness across business requirements
• Support cross-functional organizational activities; training, communications
• Support the delivery of operational readiness and cutover planning
• Continue to support the ongoing design and development of the product; ensuring the solution aligns with the evolving needs of the business and market.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in QA, business analysis or a related role
• Experience on a product team that uses user stories, backlog management and sprints
• Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand system architecture, APIs, data, data integrations etc.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, such as SQL, Excel, and data visualization software
• Experience with JavaScript and Python
• Experience with cloud web-based applications
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Adaptability and resilience to respond to evolving priorities and timelines
• Experience in both agile and waterfall delivery methodologies; with strong aptitude in sprints and ceremonies (i.e. standup, sprint planning, retrospectives)
• Establishing strong business and technical relationships to facilitate trust and collaboration across team members and partners
• Experience across large scale project implementation; in-house legacy applications, introduction of new technology etc.
• Experience with Azure DevOps
