The Role

Rakuten Kobo is looking for a Senior Frontend Developer – UI Platform (6 month contract) to join our R&D team in Toronto. You will work with a development team to deliver new features to our customers. Our engineers operate across the development spectrum, from front-end to back-end, CI/CD, and infrastructure, taking full responsibility from requirements gathering to deployment and monitoring. The Senior Frontend Developer will play a vital role in all aspects of delivery, including design, planning, implementation, release, and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop web applications.
• Document development processes, conduct peer reviews, and provide actionable feedback.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand product requirements.
• Perform regression testing to validate software stability after changes or updates.
• Monitor application health and improve system observability.

The Skillset

• Proficiency in modern JavaScript libraries such as ReactJS, NextJS, Remix.
• Experience building web components with React library and Tailwind CSS.
• Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS/SCSS.
• Experience developing accessible applications following accessibility standards.
• Knowledge of unit testing frameworks like React Testing Library and Jest.
• Hands-on experience with end-to-end testing tools like Playwright.
• Proficiency in DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins.
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Datadog and Kibana.
• Experience improving page performance, focusing on Lighthouse scores.

Nice To Haves

• Experience using Storybook for component documentation and playground.
• Knowledge of containerization using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience working in a .NET environment.
• Knowledge of MS SQL and RavenDB.
