Job summary

AtkinsRéalis Group in Canada seeks a Senior Fuel Engineering Analyst to support the design of new nuclear power plants and the refurbishment of existing CANDU units. You will perform analyses on fuel design, thermal-hydraulics, safety, and ROP, preparing rigorous technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree with 10–15 years of experience, expert knowledge of CANDU fuel systems, programming in Python or Fortran, FE modeling capability, and

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent or higher from a university of recognized standing.
• A minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience or combination of experience and advanced education.
• Knowledge of thermal-fluid sciences (mechanical, fluid flow, heat transfers, multi-phase flow and thermodynamics).
• Advanced knowledge of the CANDU design, with emphasis on fuel design and operation, heat transport system and plant control, containment and moderator systems.
• Proficiency in computer programming, especially python or Fortran.
• Knowledge in developing finite element models and performing stress analysis.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible, i.e., handle varied work assignments and changing project needs.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to meetings/workshops.
• Full commitment to working in a formal QA environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform, document, review, and/or verify technical analyses related to fuel design, thermal-hydraulics, operation and safety, ROP, and fuel cycles.
• Interface with related skills including deterministic safety analysis and physics.
• Assist in developing analysis basis plans, Design verification plan and design requirements.
• Develop design and analysis codes.
• Produce high-quality reports summarizing technical information.
• Present results to internal and/or external stakeholders.
• Collate, assimilate, and summarize results from existing analyses.
• Follow procedures, guidelines and standards governing the work.
• Attend meetings at the office, remotely, or client sites as needed.
• Continually improve skills through instructor-led courses and/or on-the-job training.
