Job summary

Clarity Recruitment seeks a Financial Controller for a not-for-profit healthcare organization in Toronto. You will own the full accounting lifecycle, ensure strong financial controls, and lead a finance team reporting to the Director of Finance.

You will oversee month-end close, external audits, and compliance with government funding requirements, partnering with leaders to drive financial insights and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA designation required with public accounting background.
• 5+ years accounting experience with leadership in financial operations.
• Hands-on full-cycle accounting, including month-end and year-end close processes.
• Experience supporting external audits and implementing process improvements.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead all financial reporting processes, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, maintaining strong internal controls and process efficiency.
• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with not-for-profit accounting standards and government funding requirements, including preparation of funder reports.
• Lead month-end close process and support variance analysis to identify business drivers.
• Manage external audit relationships, lead audit preparation, and resolve audit findings.
• Support annual budget development, forecasts, and long-range financial planning.
• Partner with department leaders to provide financial insights and decision-making support.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.
• Oversee ERP and financial systems to ensure data integrity and optimal utilization.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management for finance team members.
• Support ad hoc financial analysis and strategic initiatives as required.
