Why is this role important?
Under the direction of the Manager, Finance Business Partner Services, the Senior Finance Business Partner is a subject matter expert in financial analysis and reporting, providing strategic business partnership to internal clients and providing oversight to the analyst. In addition, the incumbent leads the finance related activities of CIHI’s Strategic Initiatives, and liaises with the Financial Planning and Analysis team, Corporate Reporting unit, the Commitments and Planning department and the Project Management Office, as required.
What you'll do
1. Leads the CIHI’s divisional budget and forecast, working collaboratively with the CIHI teams and the Finance Business Partners (FBPs). Summarizes and identifies significant variances and related implications from the approved operating plan and budget (including projections) and provides corporate financial insights to support decision making.
2. Leads monthly financial statement analysis process with the Finance Business Team to provide month-end reporting and commentary deck, including financial analysis and reporting offering actionable insights to drive informed business decisions.
3. Provides leadership and guidance to staff. Supervises, coaches, coordinates and monitors work, workload and performance of staff to ensure quality is maintained and that learning opportunities are provided. Oversees and delivers annual performance management reviews.
4. Leads and coordinates the activities of the FBPs related to strategic initiatives and special purpose funding projects for internal and external oversight. Implements and maintains process documentation and communication of applicable policies and procedures. Reviews the financial analyses prepared by the FBPs and supports them in the preparation of new internal and external funding proposals and associated agreements.
5. Leads the finance portion of the business case preparation and monthly/ quarterly reporting for the corporate strategic initiatives. Reviews and finalizes the quarterly forecast and variance explanations prepared by the finance business partners.
6. Leads the project and operational level analytics. Works in collaboration with the Financial Planning and Analysis team and the FBPs to summarize and identify significant deviations with the budget and leads the preparation of audit lead sheets documentation.
7. Supports strategic and operational planning processes for the department. Provides support for departmental and/or branch activities, projects or strategic initiatives.
8. Develops and implements communication and learning materials to support the department’s activities, ensuring communication methods are tailored to the topic and audience in question.
9. Leads, reviews or participates, as required, in the ongoing maintenance and major enhancements of the financial accounting/business systems. Evaluates needs, develops and implements the plan related to enhancements and performs quality assurance on work done by others.
10. Supports the Finance Business Partner Manager in the preparation of any financial advice, analyses, and insight for senior leadership.
11. Completes other ad hoc support and analyses, as required, and works on other CIHI projects as requested.
What you'll bring to the table
• Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or Commerce and a professional accounting designation are required. Chartered Professional Accountant designation or Master’s in Business Administration is considered an asset
• A minimum of five years’ experience in financial analysis, budgeting & forecast, management reporting and working as a finance business partner
• 1-3 years of supervisory experience with a strong record of successful team engagement
• Ability to successfully handle multiple complex priorities concurrently
• Experience with ERP systems. Knowledge of Unit 4 Business World is an asset.
• Ability to summarize, interpret and synthesize complex information with a corporate perspective and present it in an understandable manner, to support and advise senior management.
• Storytelling and communication skills to convey technical accounting and financial information in a clear and concise manner to non-financial audiences is required.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, Power Pivot & Power Query)
• Experience in Power BI, Qlik, Python or other applications that support strong data visualization, dashboard & report development is an asset.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Fluency in English required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset
