Job summary

Shermco Industries in British Columbia seeks a Senior Field Protection & Controls Technologist to lead field execution, commissioning, testing, and client support on complex power projects. This hands-on role emphasizes relay work, SCADA/RTU integration, and field leadership, not office design work.

Qualifications

• 7–15 years of field experience in protection and controls or related electrical field services.
• Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Protection and Controls.
• Registration with ASTTBC or EGBC is an asset.
• NETA Certification, or progress toward certification, is preferred.
• Advanced hands-on experience with SEL relays strongly preferred.
• Experience with GE Multilin relays (C30, D60, L90, T60) is a strong asset.
• Experience with RTU, SCADA, telecom, and related platforms; ability to read electrical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead installation, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of protection and control systems.
• Perform advanced field testing on transmission assets and protection equipment.
• Configure and commission SEL and GE Multilin relay systems.
• Support SCADA/RTU upgrades and integration with field systems.
• Interpret protection schemes, relay settings, and wiring diagrams.
• Troubleshoot field issues and implement practical field solutions.
• Provide field leadership and mentor junior team members.
• Serve as a client-facing technical resource during field assignments.
• Prepare test reports, commissioning documentation, and closeout records.
• Promote safety-first culture and adhere to procedures and regulatory requirements.
