  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in vehicle damage appraisal and the collision repair industry.
  • Experience as auto damage appraiser is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Mitchell Estimating System.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of motor vehicle repairs, especially passenger vehicles.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to explain assessments clearly.
  • Strong computer/tech skills for estimating and claims platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with sound judgment.
  • Teamwork and collaboration with customers, facilities, claims teams.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented in field assignments.
  • Ability to balance customer service with cost management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete, accurate automobile repair estimates using automated estimating systems.
  • Communicate estimates and assessment information clearly to customers, facilities, and claim representatives.
  • Negotiate repair plans with facilities to support outcomes and cost control.
  • Conduct re-inspections to verify repair quality and cost control.
  • Evaluate actual value of totaled vehicles and manage storage and rental expenses.
  • Respond to field dispatch requirements and complete investigations/resolutions efficiently.
  • Identify and report potentially fraudulent claims to senior leadership.
  • Maintain relationships with customers, facilities, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Field Auto Damage Appraiser based in Canada.

As a Senior Field Auto Damage Appraiser, you will assess vehicle damage and repair costs while supporting the adjustment and settlement of automobile physical damage claims.
You will work directly with customers, repair facilities, and claim representatives to develop accurate and competitive repair estimates.
The role combines technical automotive expertise, negotiation, customer service, and cost management.
You will help ensure repairs meet quality standards while identifying opportunities to control indemnity, storage, and rental vehicle expenses.
You will also assess vehicles declared total losses and contribute to efficient claim investigation and resolution in the field.
The position requires strong judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills within a collaborative claims environment.
This is a field-based opportunity serving the greater Calgary area, with flexibility to work remotely from an Alberta home office.

Accountabilities
  • Prepare complete, accurate, and competitive automobile repair estimates using automated estimating systems.

  • Communicate repair estimates and assessment information clearly to customers, repair facilities, and claim representatives.

  • Negotiate repair plans and processes with repair facilities to support appropriate repair outcomes and cost control.

  • Conduct re-inspections of repaired vehicles to assess repair quality and verify that costs are appropriately managed.

  • Evaluate the actual value of vehicles declared total losses and take proactive measures to control associated storage and rental vehicle expenses.

  • Respond to field dispatch requirements and complete claim investigations and resolutions efficiently and within established service expectations.

  • Identify and report potentially fraudulent claims to the appropriate senior leadership.

  • Balance cost-control objectives with a high standard of customer service throughout the claims process.

  • Maintain effective relationships with customers, repair facilities, colleagues, and other stakeholders involved in claim resolution.

  • Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays depending on operational requirements.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in vehicle damage appraisal and the collision repair industry.

  • Previous professional experience as an auto damage appraiser is required.

  • Strong working knowledge of the Mitchell Estimating System.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of motor vehicle repairs, particularly passenger vehicles.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain technical assessments clearly to different audiences.

  • Strong computer and technology skills, including the ability to work efficiently with estimating and claims-related systems.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with sound judgment when assessing vehicle damage, repair costs, and total-loss situations.

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, repair facilities, claims professionals, and internal teams.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing field-based claim assignments efficiently.

  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where customer service, technical accuracy, and cost management must be balanced.
