EllisDon's Civil division is looking for a Lead Estimator who will be responsible for gathering information, preparing estimates, and setting priorities. Prepare construction budget/cost estimates to determine the best design option and review plans, specifications, client requirements, and design requirements to complete accurate estimates. Perform all functions and responsibilities in consonance with the company’s values and beliefs.

You, as a Lead Estimator, will:

1. Confidently lead a team through the completion of a bid process for larger and complicated projects (Scope definition, risk profiling, division of work among team members, facilitate and lead executive reviews meetings).
2. Review drawings and tender documents to understand scope of work and submission requirements.
3. Assemble accurate, timely, and well-organized estimates, including hard-bid, construction management, and design-build.
4. Prepare reports and lead executive bid review meetings.
5. Review schedule for accuracy and determine production rates.
6. Contact subcontractors and vendors for specific divisions to obtain external pricing.
7. Negotiate subcontractors and vendor pricing.
8. Resolve cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
9. Organize sub-contractor quotes when the bid is successful, re-writing binders and assisting the buy-out process.
10. Distribute sub-trade quotes to personnel, flagging areas of concern and coordinating with management to accommodate risk within the bid price.
11. Recognize and evaluate risks within each specific project and produce and maintain a risk registry.
12. Maintain databases, including labour rates, material pricing, and project costs, for future reference.
13. Support the project handover process to the Project Delivery / Operation teams. If requested, assist with the project material procurements.
14. Able to work independently and as a team member.
15. Oversee pre-qualification submissions, RFQ’s, and RFI’s.
16. Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones.
17. Mentor and develop junior staff within the estimating department.
18. Maintain quality service by following organization standards.
19. Maintain continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing bid needs.
20. Determine bidding standards to improve estimating bid quality and reduce estimating time.

Is this the right role for you?

• You have a Degree or Diploma in Engineering or Construction.
• 12+ years of civil construction experience with a focus on transportation infrastructure (roads, bridges, rail).
• 5+ years of estimating experience.
• Project Management and Field Experience is an asset.
• Good communication and documentation skills.
• Develop and manage budgets.
• Familiarity with B2W Software would be considered an asset.
• Well-developed interpersonal customer service and relationship-building skills.
• Good oral and written English-language skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Self-motivated, energetic, and reliable with a positive disposition.
• The ability to work under pressure and to prioritize work effectively.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
