Job Description
Reports to the General Manager, the Senior Estimator supports all Pacific Bids & Estimates and helps develop price proposals by performing estimating duties such as bid document management and organization, preparing take-offs for construction projects and researching information for incorporation into bids.

Primary / Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Reviews tender documents and attends pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates.
- Analyzes tender documents, plans, specs and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials and labour estimates.
- Manage quantity surveys and take-offs as required.
- Manage detailed material lists based on the tender documents and specs and forwards to Material Manager for pricing.
- Reviews and incorporates historical data from prior estimates, purchase agreements and subcontracts in order to gain information for current bids.
- Analyzes and evaluates bids from subcontractors for their completeness and accuracy in scope of work.
- Develops scope of work for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Prepares submission and coordinates for bid day with other staff involved in the estimating process.
- Ensures compliance with the tender documents/requirements.
- Ensures all general conditions of the tender document are met i.e. insurance/bonding/special requirements.
- Liaises with the management for strategic estimate approach and feedback on estimates.
- Creates initial construction schedule and cash flow forecast.
- Tracks and follows upcoming projects within SharePoint and updates weekly.
- Prepares and presents project turnover package upon award of contract.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School graduation plus post-secondary training in a relevant field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant estimating experience preferably gained in the construction or railway industry.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in reviewing contract documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency utilizing common business and estimating applications such as Microsoft Office products, Hard Dollar, Explorer or JD Edwards software.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- This is a full-time position;
- Occasional weekend or night work may be required;
- Occasional exposure to outdoor construction sites in all weather conditions may be required;
- Majority of the field work is on and around live track (trains);
- Work may be in urban, rural or isolated areas. Accommodations and transportation will be provided, if required.
