Job summary

Pomerleau is seeking an experienced estimator in Ottawa, Canada to join our construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating projects, preparing quantity summaries, and mentoring junior staff in best practices.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Perform a quantitative evaluation of materials and manpower required for the work deemed decisive and verify the quantities given by the estimators.
• Prepare the summary of quantities according to the plans and specs, sorting them according to the standardized sections and functions of the trades involved.
• Identify project‑specific prices related to key items including labor, equipment, and materials.
• Grow and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients to achieve project goals and vision.
• Thoroughly review all received amounts from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring their alignment with bid documents during compilation and bid closings.
• Take part in and/or coordinate the various parties involved in the estimation of a design‑build project.
• Support in the search for new contacts—subcontractors, suppliers, and work providers.
• Suggest and quantify alternatives to bid documents to reduce construction costs of bid projects.
• Act as a role model and mentor for junior team members, providing coaching and guidance on best practices and trade secrets.

Qualifications

• A university degree or college diploma in construction project estimation or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in estimating within the ICI construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of excavation and formwork.
• Previous experience leading and mentoring junior team members.
• Strong experience working with estimation software.
