Job description

Your Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Epidemiologist to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of cancer care in Alberta through data-driven insights. At Cancer Care Alberta, our goal is to be a leader in cancer diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care, all on a foundation of world-class analytics. Situated within Cancer Research & Business Partnerships, Precision Analytics is a multidisciplinary team of passionate experts in epidemiology, biostatistics, and machine learning, who are dedicated to advancing healthcare through data. We are committed to expanding our capacity to apply advanced analytics to high-priority projects, with the ultimate aim of ensuring timely access to care for our patients. You will work collaboratively within a dynamic team, applying your advanced epidemiological knowledge to design robust study protocols and ensure the validity of our work. Your work will translate complex healthcare challenges into actionable analytic solutions, making a tangible impact on patients' lives.

Description

As a Senior Epidemiologist at Cancer Care Alberta, you will be a crucial member of the Precision Analytics team, working under the guidance of the Program Lead. You will contribute to large-scale applied analytics projects that address critical issues in cancer care. The role requires a multidisciplinary approach, utilizing your advanced scientific expertise in epidemiology and biostatistics to expand our capacity to apply cutting-edge analytic techniques. Your work will ultimately generate evidence and tools for more efficient operational planning, ensuring that cancer patients have timely access to care at Cancer Care Alberta. You will work with a high degree of independence, and in concert with the Program Lead, to design and implement the epidemiology components of Precision Analytics projects. In collaboration with other scientists on the team, the Senior Epidemiologist interprets stakeholder needs and translates them into well-defined analytic objectives. You are responsible for developing study designs and sampling strategies that account for data limitations. You will apply your comprehensive understanding of bias and confounding to select input data for machine learning (ML) or traditional statistical models to ensure the validity of the work produced by Precision Analytics and to maintain ethical standards of data use for ML. Leveraging your robust foundation in biostatistics, you will apply advanced analytical techniques to non-ML components of Precision Analytics projects and interpret complex results to draw valid and actionable conclusions. As part of our commitment to continuous growth, the Senior Epidemiologist stays up to date with the latest advancements in epidemiology, integrating cutting-edge technologies and best practices into our work, and encouraging team growth through mentorship and training materials.
