Job Description:
We’re SLR Consulting (Canada), a 500+ team of environmental/regulatory professionals across the country. As our new Senior Environmental Specialist, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal. In this position, you’ll take on full project management and business development responsibilities and ensure the delivery of high-quality work to our clients. You’ll work as senior expertise to support Environmental Assessments (Phase I and II ESA) and Remediation and Reclamation programs, as well as reporting, data analysis and general due diligence works. Project locations will be focused on Alberta and northeast BC; therefore, a strong understanding and familiarity with BC and Alberta regulations is required. You’ll work closely with your clients, maintaining satisfaction and building long-term relationships, while always seeking to expand our portfolio. Building on existing key client contacts and relationships is also critical to the position.

• Provide senior technical review and oversight on environmental assessment, remediation, and reclamation projects in the upstream oil and gas sector across AB and northeast BC
• Manage small technical groups and technical programs, including all facets of project delivery including effective delegation and oversight of project tasks
• Manage client relationships with a focus on growing SLR’s upstream oil and gas business, while maintaining highest level of client satisfaction
• Effectively mentor junior and intermediate staff in project management/task management skills as well as environmental site assessment
• Provide leadership through open and positive communications with all staff
• Participate in all facets of contaminated site projects including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and remediation/reclamation projects, field sampling, and reporting
• Plan, report and track schedules and budget, all as part of project financial management

Qualifications:
• Ideally a minimum of 15 years of experience in contaminated site assessment including preliminary and detailed environmental site assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, and remediation/reclamation programs
• Experience working in oil and gas, with an emphasis on upstream clients in northeast BC
• Experience with various contaminants of concern including hydrocarbons and salinity
• Experience with various remedial techniques (e.g. excavation, biological treatment, in-situ treatment/remediation, risk assessment, reclamation)
• Knowledge and practical application of health & safety requirements unique to subsurface investigations and contaminated sites
• Provide technical leadership through mentoring of staff during project delivery and for other aspects such as Health and Safety, training, and team building
• Experience with complex and varied scientific, planning and engineering assignments and assessments, requiring an understanding of a broad field of science/planning/engineering, and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other fields
• Able to work independently, including ability to work alone in remote locations and adapt to conditions/resources
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geological science, or environmental science
• Professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., E.I.T., G.I.T., A.Sc.T)
• Valid driver’s license and regular access to a reliable vehicle required for occasional travel to job sites/clients
