Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health optimization on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.

Optum Tech is a global leader in health care innovation. Our teams build and operate enterprise-scale, cloud-native platforms that power modern healthcare workflows. The Stratus Imaging Archive is a foundational component of our Enterprise Imaging strategy, enabling secure, scalable, and interoperable management of medical imaging data across the enterprise.

The Senior Engineering Manager will lead engineering teams building and evolving the Stratus Imaging Archive product and play a critical role in advancing our cloud-native Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) and Enterprise Imaging strategy. This role is accountable for engineering execution, people leadership, customer engagement, and cross-organizational collaboration to deliver reliable, high-quality imaging solutions at scale.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead multiple software engineering teams responsible for the Stratus Imaging Archive platform
  • Own delivery execution and planning, ensuring clear commitments, dependency management, and predictable outcomes
  • Identify and mitigate delivery risk early, driving transparency and corrective action
  • Ensure operational readiness at release, including reliability, scalability, observability, and support handoff
  • Drive adoption of AI across the SDLC to improve engineering velocity, quality, testing effectiveness, and delivery predictability
  • Collaborate with Architect and Product to deliver AI within product capabilities, translating opportunities into scalable, reliable, customer-facing value
  • Drive product innovation in close collaboration with Product, advancing new capabilities that strengthen the Stratus Imaging Archive platform
  • Lead continuous improvement across engineering practices and delivery to improve quality, efficiency, and operational outcomes
  • Serve as the engineering representative for the product during customer escalations, providing leadership and cross-team coordination
  • Partner closely with Architecture, Infrastructure, Quality Engineering, Security, Operations, and development partners (e.g. Google) to deliver enterprise-grade solutions
  • Develop and grow engineering leaders and teams through clear expectations, coaching, and talent development
  • Experience scaling teams through recruiting, onboarding, and staff augmentation

You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering management role
  • Experience leading multi-team engineering organizations of 20+ engineers, either directly or through engineering leads/managers
  • Experience leading teams through the full product lifecycle — from building cloud‑native customer‑facing software to operating it at enterprise scale
  • Experience in cloud‑native design, principles, and best practices
  • Experience designing, building, and operating large scale data platforms or data intensive distributed systems
  • Experience in GCP (AWS/Azure acceptable)
  • Experience directly managing software engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development
  • Proven ability to own and lead engineering escalations with customers, from triage through resolution
  • Demonstrated understanding of the business domain, customer workflows, with the ability to translate domain knowledge into engineering and product decisions
  • Proven solid influencing, persuasion, and negotiation skills, including conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated experience balancing customer commitments, product roadmap priorities, operational reliability, and technical modernization
  • Demonstrated commitment to building a stronger organization — investing in hiring, mentorship, engineering culture, and continuous improvement beyond immediate project needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading multiple teams and/or managers in complex, regulated environments or medical devices
  • Solid domain experience in Enterprise Imaging, Radiology workflows, or Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) platforms
  • Experience driving AI adoption within engineering teams to improve productivity, code quality, or delivery velocity
