Job summary

Centerra Gold Inc. invites applications for a Senior Engineer, Mine at Mount Milligan Mine in British Columbia. The role supports Mine‑to‑Mill optimization, budgets, long‑term plans, and TSF scheduling within a camp environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Registered as a P.Eng. in British Columbia.

Responsibilities

  • Develop medium‑ to long‑range mine plans and production schedules.
  • Provide guidance to ensure short‑range mine plans align with long‑term strategies.
  • Conduct short‑term options analysis to improve equipment utilization and cost optimization.
  • Optimize drill‑and‑blast parameters to improve rock fragmentation and unit costs.
  • Develop and control drill & blast budgets, including forecast and variance analysis.
  • Coordinate industrial trials of explosives, blast systems, and drilling equipment.
  • Collaborate with consultants and suppliers to improve D&B operations.
  • Monitor consumption of drilling tools and explosive materials with cost reporting.
  • Develop and execute medium‑ to long‑term TSF construction plans and schedules.
  • Support TSF optimization, planning, and engineering activities.
  • Contract management and cost control.
  • Contribute to Drill & Blast budget development and financial models.
  • Assist with cost forecasting, variance analysis, and long‑term planning.
  • Prepare technical and economic justifications for CAPEX and OPEX.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and other staff.

About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi‑Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero‑tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Senior Engineer, Mine to join our Mount Milligan Mine (MTM) operations site.

This role operates on a rotation of 7 days on / 7 days off or a 14 days on/14 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule with camp accommodations provided.

The Senior Mine Engineer plays a key role in optimizing the Mine‑to‑Mill process through effective collaboration with Mine Geology, Mine Operations, Drill & Blast, Maintenance, and Mill Operations and Maintenance. This position is responsible for developing the Drill & Blast budget; supporting the creation of financial models, medium- to long-term mine plans, and Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) construction schedules; contributing to annual budgeting processes; managing contracts and controlling costs; and ensuring alignment between short- and long-range plans. The Senior Mine Engineer also provides mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff within the Mine Technical Services department.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Mine Planning & Optimization
  • Develop medium‑ to long-range mine plans and production schedules.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure short-range mine plans align with long-range strategies.
  • Conduct short-term options analysis to support improved equipment utilization and cost optimization.
Drill & Blast
  • Optimize drill‑and‑blast parameters to improve rock fragmentation and optimize unit costs; ensure effective D&B performance reporting and analysis. Conduct field inspections to verify drilling accuracy (QA/QC).
  • Develop and control D&B budgets, including coast forecasting and plan‑vs‑actual variance analysis.
  • Coordinate and execute industrial trials of explosives, blast systems, and drilling equipment, ensuring technical, safety, and economic compliance.
  • Collaborate with consultants and suppliers to improve the efficiency and quality of D&B operations.
  • Monitor and control consumption of drilling tools, consumables, and explosive materials, ensuring accurate cost tracking and reporting.
Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Planning
  • Work closely with Mine Operations and Mine Technical Services to develop and execute medium‑ to long-term TSF construction plans and schedules.
  • Support ongoing TSF optimization, planning, and engineering activities.
  • Contract management and cost control.
Financial & Strategic Support
  • Contribute to annual Drill&Blast budget development and support the creation of financial models.
  • Assist with cost forecasting, variance analysis, and long‑term strategic planning.
  • Prepare technical and economic justifications for CAPEX and OPEX, including equipment selection.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior Engineers, Co‑op Students, and other technical personnel.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that supports professional development and continuous improvement.
General Responsibilities
  • Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, and presentations as required.
  • Perform additional duties related to the role, as assigned.
About You

The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:

Education & Certification
  • Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Registered as a P.Eng. in British Columbia.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
Experience
  • 6 - 8 years of mine engineering experience with demonstrated competency in:
    • Drill & Blast design
    • Open-pit mine optimization
    • Mine design
    • Mine planning & scheduling
    • Budgeting and cost analysis
  • Experience working in large open-pit operations preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with:
    • Pit optimization and mine design software (MineSight, Deswik, Datamine or equivalent)
    • Mine planning & scheduling applications
    • Drill and Blast design software (MineSight, Short Plus)
    • Experience using Power BI and Power Query
    • Experience generating Power Automate workflows
    • Experience using VBA scripts to automate Excel-based work processes
    • Spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Soft Skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices.
  • Strong communication skills, including presentation, written, verbal, and active listening.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Experience working in northern climates and culturally diverse environments is an asset.
Working Conditions
  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 7/7 or a 14/14, 12 hours per day.
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site.
  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Prince George, Fort St. James and Mackenzie.
