The I&C Systems Design Engineer is responsible for design and analysis of I&C systems for nuclear power plant applications.

Responsible for Plant I&C Systems design activities that support:
- GE's BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and/or
- Gen-IV reactor technologies including Natrium and ARC sodium fast reactors (SFRs).
Essential Responsibilities
- Demonstrates accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
- Provides technical guidance and leadership, oversees project scheduling and resource planning, develops talent through mentorship, and acts as the point-of-contact between your engineering team and both internal and external customers.
- Leads I&C System design and development from conceptual through preliminary and detailed design, fabrication, assembly, production test, validation test as well as site installation, start-up test, and commissioning.
- Performs, leads, or manages design and related technical scope from Conceptual, Preliminary, and Detailed Design including successful completion of nuclear regulatory design certification or plant licensing as well as procurement packages and hand-offs to suppliers for implementation, covering all system and component requirements, interfaces, functions, performance, design assurance, qualification, standards, regulatory guidance, certification or licensing commitments, technical contracts, human factors, safety hazards, reliability, cyber security, etc.
- Collaborates with other disciplines to define and achieve functional, performance, reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) targets and conducts failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
- Collaborates with system supplier implementation teams to develop, perform, and review unit, module, system, and integration test plans, procedures, and reports including factory acceptance test, site acceptance test, construction, pre-operational, and start-up tests.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in industrial Instrumentation and Control in fields such as nuclear, power, process, marine, oil & gas, military, aerospace, medical, or pharmaceutical.
- Minimum 7 years of experience with application, requisition, or field engineering involving programmable logic controllers (PLC) or top-tier DCS in complex instrumentation, data acquisition, control, monitoring, or automation.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in safety-critical applications or regulated industries.
- Professional Engineering Designation of Ontario.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in nuclear analog and digital instrumentation, control, and monitoring systems, including safety-related systems, hardware, software, and environmental qualification testing.
- Experience with DCS or PLC application, deployment, and support engineering for high-reliability systems involving signal acquisition, data processing, networking, safety hazards, reliability, simulation, and cybersecurity.
- Knowledge of industry standards.
- Strong analytical, communication, and facilitation skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work successfully in a matrix environment, managing multiple priorities.
- Ownership and responsibility for work scope, planning, scheduling, and reporting.
- Proactive with a positive attitude, capable of delivering in fast-paced settings.
- Continuous improvement mindset, capable of identifying and implementing better processes.
