Job summary

Experis is seeking a Senior Engineer/Architect specialized in electronic trading, market data, and smart order routing in Toronto. The role combines hands-on engineering with a deep understanding of trading systems, market structure, and execution workflows.

You will design and optimize real-time platforms, mentor teams, and lead modernization efforts to ensure performance, resiliency, and regulatory readiness in capital markets technology.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in electronic trading or capital markets technology.
• Deep understanding of exchange ecosystems, order books, market data, trade lifecycles, and liquidity provision.
• Strong knowledge of low-latency market data processing and distribution.
• Experience with market-making, pricing, quoting, or liquidity management systems.
• Strong programming experience in Java and Python.
• Experience with Apache Spark, PySpark, or Scala Spark.
• Experience with Kafka or similar real-time messaging and streaming technologies.
• Strong understanding of FIX Protocol and electronic trading connectivity.
• Solid SQL, distributed systems, and performance optimization experience.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

We are partnering with a leading financial services organization to hire a Senior Engineer / Architect with deep expertise in electronic trading, market data, smart order routing, and capital markets technology. This role is ideal for a senior technical professional who combines hands‑on engineering capabilities with a strong understanding of trading systems, market structure, and execution workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and enhance low-latency electronic trading and market data platforms.
• Develop solutions across the full trading technology stack, including:
• Order management and execution
• Smart Order Routing (SOR)
• Market data ingestion, normalization, and distribution
• Market-making and liquidity management workflows
• Partner with trading desks, product teams, quants, operations, and compliance stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Architect and optimize real-time streaming and event-driven applications.
• Design and support FIX connectivity, execution management, and trade lifecycle processing.
