Overview

Senior Electrical Studies Engineer

Westwood Professional Services, Inc.

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Electrical Studies Engineer to play a key role in designing and optimizing utility-scale renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and battery storage facilities. The role involves conducting comprehensive electrical system studies, ensuring grid interconnection compliance, and mentoring junior engineers.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with lead design engineers and clients to develop electrical models and studies supporting project design.
2. Create detailed system models for various studies such as short circuit, load flow, harmonics, insulation coordination, and transient studies.
3. Prepare and deliver written reports on study findings within project timelines.
4. Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including clients and engineers.
5. Mentor and train junior studies engineers.
6. Review colleagues' work to ensure quality before client submission.

Required Experience

• 5–10 years of experience in electrical plant design and system studies.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with a focus on power systems.
• Experience with utility-scale renewable energy systems and grid integration.
• Proficiency with electrical system study software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD, SKM Power*Tools, PSSE, PSLF, or similar.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work effectively in teams and manage stakeholder relationships.
• Positive attitude and motivation to contribute to a growing team.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.

Preferred Experience

• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Proficiency with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, WinIGS, CDEGS.
• Knowledge of Python and/or VBA.
