BBA Consultants is seeking a senior Protection Engineer to lead design and protection scheme work for major electrical projects in Canada. You will coordinate with cross‑functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and drive design from concept to completion.

The role requires a Professional Engineer in Canada, 12+ years in protection engineering, and strong communications to manage relationships with clients and vendors. Regular, on‑site roles across Canada.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree and Professional Engineer (Canada) registration is required.
• 12 years of experience, specializing in Protection Engineering.
• Experience in large industrial, power generation and utility sectors.

Responsibilities

• Lead design phases of projects from proposal through to detail design.
• Mentor junior engineers and oversee engineering and design activities.
• Develop protection schemes and perform system studies (short circuit, load flow).
• Lead client relationships and expand opportunities with existing clients.

• Execute day-to-day technical and strategic mandates based on areas of expertise and in coordination with BBA's internal disciplines located across Canada
• Deliver protection and design solutions: Equipment and Design specifications, detail design, vendor bid evaluation, factory acceptance testing, vendor drawing review
• Develop HV/MV designs: single lines, layouts, BOMs, schematics, wiring
• Design relays, settings, configurations for various applications (line, transformer, cap banks, etc.)
• Perform system studies (short circuit, load flow, interconnection, protection)
• Conduct technical reviews and oversee engineering and design activities
• Lead various design phases of projects: proposal development, design development, design basis, detail design
• Mentor junior engineers
• Provide exposure to potential new clients and expand relationships with existing clients
• Support execution of BBA strategy and action plan

Overview Of Certifications And Job Requirements

• Electrical Engineering degree and registered as a Professional in Canada
• 12 years of experience, specializing in Protection Engineering
• Experience within large industrial, power generation and utility sectors
• Demonstrated experience with different vendors and different protection schemes
• Strong communications, interpersonal and relationship‑building skills
• Demonstrated ability to perform widely varied tasks and meet widely varied challenges
• Proven knowledge of project‑management practices
• Working knowledge of electrical design standards (CSA, IEEE, ANSI/IEC)
