Job summary

Vard Marine Inc. is seeking a senior electrical and control systems engineer with extensive experience in shipboard systems in Vancouver.

You will design, review, and integrate electrical and control solutions for complex vessels, working with multidisciplinary teams. The role requires a PE designation and 10+ years of experience, with strong communication skills to prepare technical reports, support proposals, and liaise with clients and classification societies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent required.
• Professional Engineer designation required.
• Minimum 10+ years of post-graduation experience in the industry.
• Strong English writing and communication skills; ability to prepare reports.

Responsibilities

• Design and review ship electrical and control systems and their integration.
• Review equipment and installation specifications for vessels.
• Develop testing, commissioning procedures and verification documents.
• Prepare reports to Classification Societies and respond to queries.
• Lead engineers and designers, including training and task assignment.
• Provide technical support to business development and proposals.
• Lead project management activities within larger projects.
• Ensure design compliance with IMO, SOLAS and electrical standards.

What the position entails

• Perform and review concept and detail design of ship electrical and control systems,
• Perform and review equipment and installation specifications
• Perform and review testing, commissioning procedures
• Perform and review documents to Classification Societies and respond to their queries
• Review supplier documents and comment
• Supervise engineers and designers including training, mentoring and assigning tasks
• Perform design checks and reviews to meet quality control and assurance requirements.
• In addition to performing discrete technical tasks within larger projects, employees may perform the role of Project Manager.
• Liaise with clients and build trusting relationships.
• Prepare and present reports to clients in face-to-face meetings
• Provide technical support to business development and sales efforts
• Assist with technical propulsion preparation.
• Willingness to lead functional groups within company (i.e., technical groups, quality, etc.)
• Communicates clearly and can complete work within budget and deadlines
• Advanced report writing skills, including technical papers and conference presentations.
• Develop and recommend new policies, primarily within discipline or assigned functional groups.

What you will need to be successful

• Will hold a minimum qualification of a recognized Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent engineering degree in a related field.
• Will typically have 10+ years of post-graduation experience in industry
• Has an advanced working knowledge of primary computer software programs necessary to complete
• Experienced with electrical and control systems on ships including generators, power distribution, switchboards, breakers, motor controls, variable speed drives, passive and active harmonic filters, EMC management, fire protection, public address, lighting, cable management, data networks
• Experienced with equipment FAT, FMEA, audits, ship commissioning and start-up
• Fluent in written and verbal English with excellent communication and technical writing skills
• Experienced in proposal writing and development
• Experienced in physical layout design of equipment, tray, lighting, instruments, fire protection, controls
• Experienced in design of cable block, wiring and termination diagrams, cable schedules, motor and control schematics, electrical drive systems, panel layout and schedules
• Working knowledge of Classification Society, IMO, SOLAS rules and regulations, international electrical standards, equipment survivability conditions
• Experienced with integration of ship-specific equipment such as IPMS, IAS, SCMS, PMS, electric propulsion and electrical generation systems, battery storage hybrid systems
• Working understanding of budgets, progress reporting, earned value management, Gantt charts, schedules
• Professional Engineer designation is required.

Competitive Salary Range

CA $125,000.00 to $140,000.00, commensurate with experience and qualifications, as outlined in the job description/posting.Variation in salary is determined by factors such as qualifications, relevant years of experience, and prevailing market conditions for the specific position.
