Job summary

Ultra Maritime is recruiting a Senior Electrical Engineer to work on multi-disciplinary teams developing advanced electronics for navy programs. You will design and test low-noise preamps, high-speed telemetry, DSP, and RF components, while coordinating with customers and mentoring juniors.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor in Electrical or Electronic Engineering and can obtain NATO clearance. Travel within Canada, the US, and overseas is expected as part of program support.

  • Ability to work on Canadian CG and US ITAR controlled articles.
  • Must be able to obtain NATO security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test hardware and firmware for complex electronic systems.
  • Prepare design documentation and review engineering deliverables.
  • Provide technical interface with customers and mentors to junior staff.
  • Lead technical reviews and support project cost estimates.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to meet customer needs.

Designs, develops, and tests electrical and/or electronic equipment, components, circuits, or systems. Applies mathematical and engineering principles and methods to designs. Requires a bachelor's Degree in electrical and/or electronic engineering. Typically reports to a manager.


Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.

Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team developing new and innovative electronics solutions to meet customer needs. The Senior Electrical Engineer will work in a number of specialist areas including low noise preamps, high speed digital telemetry, Digital Signal Processing, and RF design.



  • Design, implement, maintain configuration management and test maintainable hardware and firmware systems in accordance with the company’s procedure and project specific requirements

  • Preparing or reviewing typical design documentation (design requirements, schematics, board layouts, technical specifications, and data sheets)

  • Preparing or review engineering deliverables for existing and new electrical system design modifications/upgrades/replacements

  • Preparing cost estimates or cooperating appropriately with others responsible for reporting the estimate.

  • Apply independent diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Act as a technical interface with customers

  • Provide coaching and guidance to and check work of junior engineers, technologists or technicians

  • Participate in and chair technical reviews

  • Other tasks as assigned


Required Skills


  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with 4+ years of experience

  • Ability to work on Canadian Controlled Goods and US ITAR controlled articles

  • Candidate must be capable of acquiring a NATO Reliability and Secret security clearance


Desired Skills


  • Master's Degree an asset, especially Electrical, Electronic or Underwater Acoustics Engineering

  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering (>4 years) commercial or military type electronics desirable

  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering Lead/Project lead (>1 years)

  • Experience of Maritime Domain (desirable)

  • Experience of Underwater Warfare Domain (desirable)

  • Analog and digital design

  • Embedded microcontroller design (ARM-based microcontrollers or DSP-based systems)

  • Experience with peripherals such as SPI, I2C, UART, etc.

  • Experience with DSP applications

  • OrCAD Capture, OrCAD PSpice Designer and PCB Designer

  • Competent Assembly and C language programming for embedded systems

  • FPGA design using VHDL

  • Network communication - Fiber Optic Ethernet ATM SONET

  • Experience with embedded development tools such as Sourcery CodeBench and Atollic TrueSTUDIO

  • A team-oriented individual that works collaboratively to achieve team goals

  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude, with capability to mentor others

  • Must be self-motivated, adaptable, and attentive to details

  • Willing to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline-oriented environment

  • Familiar with formal project design process and documentation

  • Willingness to travel within Canada, US and Overseas


Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field and 4+ years of experience within a relevant complex engineering environment. May be required to maintain security clearance
