Job summary

BGIS is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the Professional Services team in Toronto. You will provide electrical engineering and design for various project deliverables, including base building systems, tenant fit-outs, and EV charging infrastructure.

You will act as an individual contributor while mentoring others, leading design efforts, ensuring code compliance, and coordinating with architects, facility managers, and contractors in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Ontario Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) required.
  • Experience in electrical consulting and design of building systems.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the electrical design team on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Design base building electrical systems, tenant fit-outs, and EV charging infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver detailed designs and specifications.

Job Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a member of the professional services team and provide electrical engineering and design to assigned electrical project deliverables. The Senior Electrical Engineer will work on electrical systems designs on various projects within a versatile team where all abilities are put to good use. Electrical engineering designs will include base building electrical building systems, electrical tenant design, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure design at new and existing facilities. This role will be that of an individual contributor however the candidate will be expected to provide experience, leadership, and mentorship to the rest of the electrical engineering team.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Electrical Design Work
  • Independent project management of multiple concurrent electrical design projects, including scope, deliverables, CAD deliverables, CAD staff deliverables, authorities, and budgets/financials.
  • Research feasibility and design, operation, and performance of building electrical systems (power distribution, utilities connection, lighting, controls, emergency power, life‑safety, fire alarms, renewable power generation and storage).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, architects, facility management, technicians) to develop detailed designs across architectural, mechanical, and electrical projects.
  • Design for electric vehicle charging infrastructure, tenant fit‑up, and mechanical equipment upgrades.
  • Provide equipment selections, cost and timing estimates, reports, design specifications and drawings for electrical systems covering power distribution, utilities connection, lighting, controls, emergency power, life‑safety, fire alarms, EV charging, and renewable power generation/storing.
General Duties
  • Mentor and support young engineers within the Professional Services team.
  • Help develop, improve, and maintain processes, quality control, specifications, detail libraries, and design best practices.
  • Provide experience and leadership on all electrical deliverables.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Minimum 8 years of electrical design/engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with Electrical Codes and Provincial Building Codes.
  • Experience in engineering consulting.
  • Strong understanding of the electrical engineering environment.
  • Meticulous nature, strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in engineering and construction of building and site electrical, power, lighting and life‑safety systems (fire alarm, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently.
  • Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both official languages is an asset.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite.
  • Effective working relationships with clients, staff, and employees.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Prior customer interface experience.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with computer tools.
  • Knowledge of building mechanical systems is an asset.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
  • Must hold a degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Ontario Professional Engineer (P.Eng. PEO) required.
  • Engineering license in other provinces is an asset.
  • Driver’s license.
Compensation

This is a regular, full‑time position with a salary range of $82,432 – $103,040 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to experience, education and performance related to this role.
