Job description

We are a team of passionate medical and technological innovators on a mission to improve patient treatment and outcomes with cutting-edge medical devices like the FloPatch. FloPatch is the world’s first wireless Doppler ultrasound system designed to support the clinical management of critically ill patients. The wearable sensor enables real-time functional hemodynamic monitoring for patients requiring cardiopulmonary and fluid resuscitation. The successful candidate will assist Flosonics Medical in introducing FloPatch to the world.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will play a key part in the design, development, and optimization of the next generation of our FloPatch platform, helping ensure our products continue to deliver innovative, reliable, and manufacturable medical technology. You will lead electrical design initiatives from concept through validation while working closely with cross-functional teams to bring new product enhancements to life.

The ideal candidate is passionate about product development, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Reporting to the Engineering team, you will work closely with Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product Development to drive the redesign of our FP120 platform, develop new prototypes, test systems, and manufacturing tools, and support a design-for-manufacturability approach. This is a hybrid, Toronto-based role that requires close collaboration with production to ensure designs are practical, scalable, and ready for manufacturing.

Responsibilities:
  • System Design: Lead the electrical architecture of a wireless, battery-operated wearable ultrasound device, including high-sensitivity analog transceiver and low-power microcontroller integration with standard protocols (I2C, SPI, BLE, UART, etc.).
  • PCB Design & DFM: Lead design and review of schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium Designer, focusing on design for manufacturability (DFM) for production at scale and BOM management.
  • Ultrasound AFE Characterization: Characterize the ultrasound analog front-end and end-to-end performance, including noise floor, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and electrical validation.
  • Systems Integration: Integrate electronics with mechanical enclosures and ultrasound transducers.
  • Execute comprehensive bench-level electrical validation. Use high-speed oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers to verify impedance matching and signal integrity at the transducer interface.
  • Low-power System Design: Optimize the overall power budget by managing the interaction between the MCU, peripheral sensors, and PMIC/LiPo battery system.
  • Prototyping & Debugging: Drive hardware prototyping, board bring-up, and root-cause analysis to resolve electrical and system-level issues.
  • Collaborate with the firmware team on driver validation, debugging, and integration.
  • Design Transfer & Iteration: Lead design transfer to manufacturing and iterate on specifications based on feedback from the production team and root-cause analysis.
  • Test Tooling: Design test jigs for R& D and automated production test systems.
  • Regulatory V&V: Support V&V under ISO 13485 by developing and executing hardware test plans, procedures, and documentation for IEC 60601 compliance and regulatory validation.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in electronics design, hardware integration, testing, documentation, and verification & validation (V&V).
  • Strong experience in analog circuit design and simulation, component characterization, ultrasound/RF transducer integration, prototyping, and troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to apply design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT) methodologies.
  • Experience developing medical devices under design controls and ISO 13485 as well as knowledge of international standards such as IEC 60601-1.
  • Proficiency in Altium Designer for schematic capture, PCB layout, and design output preparation. Hands‑on expertise setting up and using oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Experience integrating sensors, analog‑to‑digital converters, microcontrollers and wireless systems‑on‑chip in low‑power, battery-operated devices.
  • Experience with electrical component selection, sourcing, and working with suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Ability to work autonomously within a diverse team and mentor junior engineers.
Compensation:

The expected salary range for this role is $100,000.00 - $140,000.00 CAD annually, with final compensation determined by experience, skills, and internal equity.

We wish to thank all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted directly. If you are selected to participate in the recruitment process, accommodations are available upon your request to meet your accessibility needs.
