AtkinsRéalis in Ontario is seeking a senior Electrical Engineering professional with extensive nuclear power experience. The role involves leading a team, coordinating with clients and suppliers, and delivering design outputs that comply with Canadian standards and QA programs.

You will contribute to conceptual and detailed design phases for CANDU and nuclear electrical systems. Ideal candidates have 15+ years of related experience, an Electrical Engineering degree, and Professional Engineer

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer in Ontario with licensure or eligible.
  • 15+ years in electrical engineering and power systems within nuclear.
  • Familiarity with CSA 22.1, CANDU power systems, and Ontario Electrical Safety Code.

  • Prepare technical documents: drawings, schematics, and design calculations.
  • Lead and supervise engineers and designers; coordinate with client and suppliers.
  • Participate in concept, preliminary, and detailed design phases for nuclear systems.

Job Description Overview This position is for an experienced individual who is extremely self‑motivated and looking to further develop his/her career in the nuclear field. The candidate shall be able to perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy QA programmes, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements as well as coordinate and interface with colleagues and the client to execute assigned engineering work. Duties can also include supervision and leading a team of other engineers. Additionally, the candidate with design experience and familiarity with Canadian Nuclear practices, standards and procedures, will be preferred.

Your role

Prepare technical documents, such as engineering drawings (including GAs, DDs, EDs), change paper markups, calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, component specification sheets, commissioning specifications, etc. Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis /Candu Energy procedures and QA programmes, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work. Become involved in conceptual, preliminary and/or detailed design phases to support CANDU and other Nuclear electrical systems and modifications. Participate in review of interfacing discipline’s documentation. Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement. Interface and provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters. Supervising, coordinating and reviewing the work of junior and assistant engineers/designer; preparing estimates and monitoring schedules and assigns work to meet completion dates to team members. Prepare scope of work and input to bid proposals. Perform field walk‑downs during different design phases and prepare Walkdown reports as required. Assist field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc. Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality. Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters. Ability to lead a team of design engineers.

About you

Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognised by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. 15+ years of related work experience in electrical engineering and power systems design in the nuclear industry. Experience with medium voltage and low voltage power distribution systems, including preparation of Single Line diagrams, Elementary Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams and schedules, and calculation of power demand/ electrical load lists. Experience with transformer sizing, cable sizing, circuit breaker sizing calculations. Experience in modelling electrical power systems and use of analysis functions in ETAP, or other similar software programme is an asset. Site experience in construction, or commissioning of electrical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset. Good working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as of CSA 22.1, Canadian Electrical Code Part I and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC). Good knowledge and experience of CANDU nuclear electrical power systems. Familiar with specifying and procurement support for electrical equipment such as Transformers, MCCs, low voltage distribution load centres, UPS systems including rectifiers and inverters and Diesel Generators (emergency and standby), power and control and instrumentation cables.
