About the job:

Kent is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer in Calgary.

Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Lead multiple sustaining capital projects as a working lead (sub-lead / area lead or project lead).
  • Manage work effectively by prioritizing, executing, reporting, and overseeing schedule and budget.
  • Establish scope of work, effort hour estimates, and deliverable lists.
  • Design LV, MV, and HV Single Line Diagrams, including Protection, Control, and Metering (PC&M) Diagrams, with strong knowledge of relay and metering systems for substations and e-houses.
  • Prepare electrical load lists and perform electrical equipment sizing calculations (transformer, cable, NGR, MCC sizing, grounding, etc.).
  • Define electrical area classification and develop related reports.
  • Experience with Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP) and their interfaces.
  • Support procurement by preparing specifications, data sheets, requisitions, and evaluating bids for electrical equipment.
  • Perform electrical system studies using ETAP or SKM for load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonic, motor starting analysis, and relay coordination.
  • Review and support electrical layouts, including substation/e-house layouts, cable trays, lighting, and grounding drawings.
  • Knowledge of interfacing with DCS, SCADA, PLC systems.
  • Support EHT design and calculations.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support project team members.
  • Provide electrical BOMs and major equipment costs for project estimates.
  • Participate in project, client, and vendor meetings.
  • Review designs for constructability and compliance with project requirements.
  • Conduct field visits to validate drawings and confirm tie-in locations.
  • Utilize workshare offices or HVEC for electrical deliverables.
  • Attend FAT/SAT testing.

Additional ad-hoc tasks may be assigned within the scope of the role to meet organizational needs.

Your knowledge, skills, education, and experience:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical processing, or power generation industries preferred.

Communication:

  • Excellent command of English, both oral and written.

Core Competencies:

  • Experience across project stages: Conceptual, Pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed engineering.
  • Knowledge of codes (CEC, CSA, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, API, NEMA, etc.).
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of business drivers, change management, project management, and construction workflows.
  • Experience managing vendor electrical packages is an asset.
  • Experience with high-voltage design, ETAP or SKM, lightning protection, and electrical building design are assets.
  • Experience in EPC industry, leading teams, and performing EHT calculations is advantageous.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
