Job summary

Trans Mountain Corporation seeks a Senior Environmental, Health & Safety Advisor to support safety initiatives across the Sumas terminal region. You will implement EHS programs, mentor teams, and partner with operations to reduce risk and ensure regulatory compliance.

The role requires 5–10 years of EHS experience, a relevant degree, and strong communication skills; CRSP/CSP preferred. You’ll engage with contractors, drive incident investigations, and contribute to an injury-free safety culture.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, or related field.
• 5–10 years of progressive EHS experience in pipeline, hydrocarbon, or industrial sectors.
• CRSP/CSP or equivalent designation preferred; additional EHS certifications are assets.
• Experience conducting field inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as a Senior Environmental, Health & Safety Advisor. In this position you will primarily be involved in supporting key safety initiatives and programs owned and managed by the EHS Department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for responsible for implementing, administering, and continuously improving Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs, policies, standards, and practices across an assigned geographic region. While the primary focus of this role is occupational health and safety, the position also provides environmental oversight to support regulatory compliance, environmental protection, and operational excellence.

The role serves as the primary EHS point of contact for operations, maintenance, projects, and contractors within the assigned region and works closely with leaders, employees, and contractors to identify and mitigate risks, promote safe work practices, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary EHS point of contact for assigned facilities, local operations, pipeline maintenance and integrity, field engineering, and capital projects.
• Provide field-based support, coaching, training, and guidance to employees, contractors, and leaders on EHS requirements, expectations, and best practices.
• Promote a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, employee engagement, and continuous improvement across operational teams.
• Implement and support corporate EHS programs, standards, procedures, and initiatives, ensuring compliance with company requirements and applicable legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
• Conduct inspections, audits, observations, assessments, and contractor oversight activities to identify hazards, verify compliance, and support continuous improvement.
• Participate in hazard and risk assessments, job hazard analyses, critical task analyses, management of change processes, operational readiness reviews, and project planning activities, supporting the development and implementation of safe work practices and risk mitigation strategies.
• Facilitate regular engagement with operational teams to communicate EHS expectations, trends, lessons learned, and awareness initiatives, while supporting competency development and training programs.
• Support regulatory inspections, audits, reporting requirements, and inquiries with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
• Collaborate with environmental planners and operational teams to identify and mitigate environmental risks, develop environmental protection measures, and support environmental compliance programs.
• Ensure compliance with environmental permits, approvals, regulations, company standards, and environmental requirements associated with operations, maintenance, and project activities.
• Support environmental inspections, incident reporting, corrective actions, and environmental protection initiatives.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in assigned EHS disciplines, maintaining specialized knowledge and providing technical support in areas such as Occupational Health & Safety, Radiation Safety, Environmental Compliance, Fisheries Protection, Industrial Hygiene, or other designated specialties.
• Participate in corporate EHS initiatives, working groups, and continuous improvement activities, including the development and enhancement of EHS policies, programs, standards, and procedures.
• Support incident reporting and investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective action development, lessons learned, and participation in formal investigation teams for serious incidents.
• Participate in emergency response drills and actual emergency response activities at any Trans Mountain location, during and outside of regular working hours, as a Safety Officer or member of the Environmental Unit.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, or related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Minimum 5-10 years of progressive EHS experience within pipeline, hydrocarbon, petrochemical, utility, industrial, construction, or related sectors.
• Demonstrated experience conducting field inspections, audits, investigations, hazard assessments, and risk assessments in operational environments.
• Experience working collaboratively with contractors, operations, maintenance, and project teams in a field-based setting.
• Strong knowledge of applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation, regulations, standards, and industry best practices, with experience interpreting and applying regulatory and company requirements.
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent designation is preferred.
• Additional certifications in Occupational Health & Safety, auditing, incident investigation, industrial hygiene, radiation safety, environmental management, or other relevant EHS disciplines are considered assets.
• Environmental certifications related to fisheries, wildlife, erosion and sediment control, reclamation, or environmental compliance are considered assets.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, coach, and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Proven organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, collaboration, and fostering a respectful, supportive workplace culture.
