Job summary

A growing municipality is seeking a Senior Economic Development Officer to oversee business advisory activities, manage investment pipelines, and foster relationships with stakeholders. The role requires a university degree in a relevant field, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and a minimum of seven years of experience in Economic Development. Qualifications

  • Experience with economic development designation from EDAC and/or IEDC is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee business advisory and intelligence service programming while leading on-the-ground business development activities to help and support domestic and international firms achieve growth in Vaughan.
  • Support the Manager, Economic Development to coordinate unit efforts with existing companies and their intermediaries planning to expand or relocate in Vaughan business parks, commercial corridors, and office locations including Downtown Vaughan.
  • Manage the department’s investment pipeline; identify process improvements to demonstrate economic impact; develop and implement economic development strategies, marketing plans and programs.
  • Represent the City’s interests in regional economic partnerships to facilitate investment, labour force retention and attraction; interact with business and stakeholders at local, regional, provincial, federal and international levels.
  • Champion and support the Corporate Service Excellence mandate.
  • Contribute to achieving expected outcomes in economic, business and labour force growth.
Qualifications and Experience
  • University Degree in Geography, Urban Planning, Business Administration, Public Administration, Business Development, Marketing and Advertising, Entrepreneurship, Commerce (or suitable equivalent).
  • Post-Graduate degree, diploma or certificate in economic development, urban planning or geography considered an asset.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years proven, progressive and more responsible related work experience in Economic Development.
  • Completed, or in-progress of completing, an economic development designation from EDAC and/or IEDC.
  • Organizational agility with an understanding of municipal government.
  • Demonstrated experience creating programs and processes to achieve positive results.
  • Demonstrated strong communication, collaboration, creative and critical thinking skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and experience working as part of interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and foster internal and external relationships and partner with City, business, labour, academic institutions, community agencies, and government.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, written, and oral communication skills with commitment to customer service excellence.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and complete projects on time and on budget within precise constraints.
  • Ability to handle matters of a confidential and/or sensitive nature as it relates to senior executives, Council, and staff.
  • Knowledge of the City’s core and leadership competencies and relevant functional competencies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Valid Ontario G driver’s license in good standing and access to a reliable vehicle for corporate use.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.
