Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia’s Labour, Skills and Immigration department seeks a Senior Director Compliance and Inspection in Dartmouth to provide strategic direction and leadership for provincial occupational health and safety programs. You will oversee regulatory enforcement, inspection, investigation and service delivery, aligning regional plans with legislative requirements.

Qualifications

  • University degree relevant to occupational health and safety with leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety compliance, inspection and enforcement.
  • Experience with government partners and policy development is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead regional operational plans and performance measures to meet legislation.
  • Oversee inspections, enforcement actions, and case management for consistency.
  • Provide strategic direction to Directors and staff on compliance and inspection.
  • Review files and recommend enforcement actions when needed.
  • Lead province-wide change initiatives and standards for inspections.
  • Represent Nova Scotia on working groups related to regulatory harmony.
  • Build relationships with government, associations, and private sector partners.
  • Advise senior officials and respond to media inquiries on safety matters.
  • Manage human and financial resources with coaching and budgeting.
