Job summary

Nova Scotia Government is seeking a Senior Director of Inspection and Compliance Services in Dartmouth. The role leads occupational health and safety compliance, inspection, enforcement and investigation programs across the province, reporting to the Executive Director and guiding regional teams.

Key duties include strategic planning, program delivery, risk oversight, and collaboration with government partners.

Qualifications

  • University degree related to occupational health and safety.
  • Several years of leadership experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge and experience in occupational health and safety compliance, inspection, enforcement and investigation.
  • Experience with government partners and diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication; negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and execution of regional operational plans and service-delivery frameworks.
  • Provide provincial oversight of inspections, investigations, enforcement actions and penalties.
  • Monitor regional performance and provide strategic direction to Directors and staff.
  • Review files and advise on enforcement actions with corrective measures as needed.
  • Lead province-wide changes in inspection and compliance operations and standards.
  • Represent Nova Scotia on working groups concerning regulatory harmonization and compliance planning.
  • Build strategic relationships across branches, government, associations and private sector.
  • Provide clear, strategic advice to senior officials and respond to media inquiries when required.
