Job Title: Senior Director, Actuarial, Finance & Life Insurance Performance Specialist

My name is Bill Stevens, and I have a new full-time opportunity for a Senior Director, Actuarial, Finance & Life Insurance Performance Specialist, at a major firm in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The work schedule will be hybrid, with three days in the office and two days remote.

Synopsis:

The Senior Director, Actuarial & Finance Specialist, Insurance Performance Management & Business Decision Support, will be a key member of the firm's Insurance Finance leadership team. Responsibilities include financial planning and analysis, management reporting, business case modeling/analysis, and supporting the insurance executive team. The candidate will manage a team providing value-added, timely, and accurate reporting, forecasting, and key metric information to support strategic decision-making.

Qualifications:
  • Experience with IFRS 17 (International Financial Reporting Standard 17).
  • Background in Insurance, preferably life insurance, group benefits, or both.
  • Over seven years of experience in management reporting, analysis, and/or FP&A, including development of key metrics and business drivers.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with data mining abilities and familiarity with new technologies for financial data delivery.
  • Proven team and people management skills, with leadership ability across diverse groups.
  • Analytical skills with a keen sense of numbers, capable of multitasking and managing high-pressure requests.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal skills, and stakeholder influence.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and adapt quickly to new tasks.
Preferred but Not Required:
  • CPA, CFA, or Finance MBA.
  • Understanding of actuarial concepts, accounting, or valuation.
  • Experience in insurance FP&A, actuarial, or reporting functions.
  • Financial modeling skills, including understanding of statistics and risk.
  • Experience with reporting or forecasting tools implementation.
Responsibilities:
  • Establish and lead the Performance Management & Business Decision Support function, collaborating with peers to leverage best practices.
  • Manage financial performance information for the Insurance business, providing analysis and actionable insights to senior leaders including the CEO, COO, and CFO.
  • Develop complex presentations to support executive decision-making.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations on financial resource utilization, including sales, expenses, and strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate forecasts, annual plans, 5-year outlooks, and line of business reviews, including stress-testing exercises.
  • Oversee benchmarking and peer comparisons, presenting findings to senior management.
  • Support various insurance programs with financial advisory services.
  • Foster an engaged, innovative team environment focused on data-driven financial analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accounting standards (e.g., OSFI, IFRS) in all financial planning and analysis.
  • Serve as key finance contact for the Insurance platform, ensuring timely and insightful reporting to meet stakeholder needs.
