Job Title: Senior Director, Actuarial, Finance & Life Insurance Performance Specialist

My name is Bill Stevens, and I am offering a full-time opportunity for a Senior Director in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The role involves a hybrid work schedule: three days in-office and two days remote.

Synopsis:

The Senior Director will be a key member of the Insurance Finance leadership team, responsible for financial planning, analysis, management reporting, business case modeling, and supporting the insurance executive team. The candidate will manage a team delivering timely and accurate reporting, forecasting, and key metrics to aid strategic decision-making.

This role suits individuals eager to work in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment within Insurance and the CFO’s team, who are innovative, challenge-driven, and aim to make a significant impact.

Qualifications:
  • Experience with IFRS 17 (International Financial Reporting Standard 17).
  • Background in Insurance, preferably life insurance and group benefits.
  • Over seven years in management reporting, analysis, or FP&A, including development of key metrics.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with data mining capabilities and interest in new technologies.
  • Leadership and team management abilities, with influence across peers.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, adapt quickly, and handle high-pressure requests.
Preferred but Not Required:
  • CPA, CFA, or MBA in Finance.
  • Understanding of actuarial concepts, accounting, or valuation.
  • Experience in insurance FP&A, actuarial, or reporting functions.
  • Knowledge of financial modeling, statistics, risk, or other quantitative metrics.
  • Experience with reporting or forecasting tools.
Responsibilities:
  1. Define the mandate for a Performance Management & Business Decision Support function.
  2. Manage financial performance data for Insurance, providing analysis and insights to senior leaders including the CEO, COO, and CFO.
  3. Create complex presentations to support executive decisions.
  4. Analyze and recommend on financial resource utilization, monitor results, and assess strategic initiatives.
  5. Coordinate forecasts, planning, and outlooks, including stress-testing exercises.
  6. Conduct benchmarking and peer comparisons, presenting findings to senior management.
  7. Support various Insurance programs with financial advisory services.
  8. Lead a team fostering an innovative environment, leveraging financial data to drive value.
  9. Ensure compliance with regulatory and accounting standards (e.g., OSFI, IFRS).
  10. Serve as the key finance contact for the Insurance platform, ensuring timely and insightful reporting to meet leadership needs.
