Job description

For over years, The Bishop Strachan School has been helping talented girls become fearless women who are able to navigate the world with intellectual curiosity, agility, and compassion. As an inclusive, non-profit institution serving students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, BSS offers unparalleled opportunities for learning and growth. Our Advancement team collaborates with parents, alumnae, and a diverse community of donors to enhance our academic programs and uphold our commitment to excellence in education.

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Development Officer to lead face-to-face major gift fundraising and donor engagement efforts while increasing the visibility of our new parent programs. This is a front-line fundraising role focused on building personal, one-on-one relationships with donors and prospects to secure significant philanthropic support for the school.

As the Senior Development Officer, you will actively manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, with a strong emphasis on in-person meetings to cultivate, solicit, and steward contributions. You will develop customized engagement strategies that reflect each donor’s interests and capacity, while also leading initiatives and campaigns that foster deep, long-term connections and help achieve fundraising targets.

What You’ll Do :

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for the long-term growth and solicitation of major gift donors ($25K+).
  2. Cultivate and solicit current and prospective donors with the capacity to make major gifts by building strong, strategic relationships to advance fundraising priorities.
  3. Actively manage a portfolio of prospective supporters through in-person meetings, phone calls, school events, and written communications.
  4. Implement fundraising metrics and goals, utilizing Raiser’s Edge to track activities and report progress regularly.
  5. Work with the Director of Development to design and implement new parent fundraising programs and initiatives that engage and inspire long-term donor commitment.
  6. Partner with the Enrolment team to identify incoming families with potential to engage as volunteers and/or donors.
  7. Be prepared for some travel and work during evenings and weekends.

Who You Are :

  1. Bachelor's degree and experience in major gifts, preferably at an educational institution; fundraising designation is a plus.
  2. Proven success in soliciting leadership gifts.
  3. Strong project management, organization, and planning skills, with a demonstrated track record of program development and attention to detail.
  4. Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office.
  5. Committed to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive work and learning environment.

BSS offers a competitive total compensation package including:

  • Extensive health and dental benefits
  • Robust pension plan with up to 8% match
  • Daily lunch provision
  • Access to on-site fitness center
  • Professional learning opportunities
  • The chance to be part of a vibrant community
