FCC Construcción has been present in Canada for more than 25 years, involved in innovative subway infrastructure work, such as the Highway 407 stations and Northern Tunnels for the Toronto York Spadina Subway Line Expansion, as well as the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Fredericton Moncton Highway.

We are experiencing exponential growth in our presence in Canada. In 1998, it was awarded for the construction, operation, and maintenance project for the Fredericton-Moncton Highway. In 2011, it was awarded a section of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway extension, the first modern subway infrastructure project in the city. This project was completed in 2018.

FCC Construcción Canadá has won a new contract to deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line, together with the GO Rail Expansion-On Corridor Project and the Scarborough Subway Extension Stations, Rail and Systems Project reinforces FCC Construcción’s presence in the Canadian market.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of design activities for large, complex underground station projects, ensuring alignment with project schedules, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide strategic direction to design teams across multiple disciplines, ensuring the integration and coordination of design, technical specifications, and interfaces to meet all project goals.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive design management plans, including a requirements traceability matrix, and lead the preparation of Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for large-scale projects.
  • Ensure strict compliance with contractual, safety, and regulatory requirements throughout all stages of the project, including design, integration, temporary works, and validation.
  • Manage construction strategies and the submission process for building permits to authorities, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
  • Foster a collaborative and cohesive working environment across all project disciplines, ensuring seamless integration between design and construction teams, temporary works designers, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct thorough impact assessments of design changes on schedule, costs, requirements, and interfaces, providing expert recommendations to senior management and clients.
  • Interface directly with project teams, stakeholders, and contractors to monitor design progress, track milestones, and manage interfaces between systems integration, testing, and commissioning.
  • Oversee engineering administration in accordance with company policies, ensuring documentation, reporting, and processes are consistently followed.
  • Mentor and guide junior managers and engineers, promoting professional development and fostering a culture of excellence within the design and project teams.

Education and Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in design management, with a focus on large-scale underground stations or similar infrastructure projects.
  • Extensive experience in managing the design process for underground transit infrastructure, including deep underground and interchange stations.
  • Proven track record in overseeing complex design and integration processes, with strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Primavera P6, MP, and related tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, with significant experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental considerations related to underground station design.
  • Experience working with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) or similar transit agencies is highly desirable.

Job Requirements :

  • Proven expertise in the design and delivery of complex underground station projects, from conceptual design through to construction and commissioning.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage stakeholder relationships, and communicate effectively with transit authorities, contractors, city planners, and the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large and complex design documentation packages, including drawings, specifications, and detailed reports.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory, safety, and environmental standards for underground infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to assess and mitigate risks, ensuring successful project delivery within tight timelines and budgets.
  • Previous experience in managing projects that involve integration with existing transit systems is an asset.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills, with a focus on driving collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within project teams.
