Job summary

Owner.com is seeking a Staff Database Engineer to help product teams store and access data at scale. You will lead migrations and decide where data lives and how to access it, building platform primitives for data access and reuse.

You will drive large, load-bearing changes to data infrastructure, working hands-on in the product stack and collaborating across engineering teams. This role is 100% remote and can be based anywhere in the United States, Canada, Mexico, or Colombia.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with databases inside the product, owning OLTP access patterns, indexing, and schema design.
• Ability to write code in the product stack and reason at the database layer.
• Deep expertise with a major relational engine (PostgreSQL preferred) in high-volume production.
• Experience migrating workloads (e.g., MongoDB → PostgreSQL).
• Expertise in schema design, indexing, and zero-downtime migrations on large tables.
• Experience scaling systems with large traffic and data growth, understanding access patterns at scale.
• Strong software engineering ability — writes and ships production code, not SQL alone.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and ownership mindset.

Responsibilities

• Lead the migration of product workloads and define data placement across services.
• Provide product engineers with a clear home for data storage and access patterns.
• Build reusable data primitives, including data-sync tooling and ORM best practices.
• Expand the product-data platform over time into caching, search, and event streaming.
