Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services Canada Inc. is seeking an experienced Database Architect with deep expertise in Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance to define enterprise database strategies, make architecture decisions on platform selection, and lead cloud transformation initiatives across complex environments in Toronto.

The successful candidate will design migration roadmaps, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure HA/DR, security, and performance standards

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in database architecture, modernization, and enterprise data platform design.
• Expertise in Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance (SQL MI).
• Experience migrating and modernizing databases across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Database Architect with deep expertise in Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance (SQL MI). The successful candidate will be responsible for defining enterprise database strategies, making architecture decisions on platform selection, designing migration approaches for legacy and modern applications, and leading cloud transformation initiatives across complex environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and design enterprise-scale database solutions on Azure.
• Provide expert guidance on when to use Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instance, Azure PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or other database platforms and explain associated tradeoffs.
• Create database migration strategies for legacy, hybrid, and cloud-native applications.
• Design migration roadmaps from on-premises SQL Server, Oracle, and legacy databases to Azure.
• Lead modernization initiatives from monolithic applications to microservices and cloud-native architectures.
• Define HA/DR, backup, security, governance, and performance standards.
• Conduct architecture reviews and mentor engineering teams.
• Collaborate with application architects, infrastructure teams, security teams, and business stakeholders.

• Azure networking, security, identity, and governance.
• CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code practices.

Migration & Modernization Expertise

• Design and execute database migrations for ERP, CRM, web applications, data warehouses, and mission-critical enterprise systems.
• Assess application dependencies and recommend optimal migration paths.
• Define rehost, replatform, refactor, and rebuild strategies.
• Create migration blueprints from legacy systems to modern cloud architectures.
• Evaluate business, cost, performance, availability, and security requirements when recommending target platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Azure certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Database Administrator Associate.
• Experience with Agile delivery models and DevOps practices.
