Job summary

At Nimble, a Senior Data Engineer role owns Nimble's data platform end-to-end, enabling product, analytics, and ops to scale. You will build batch and streaming pipelines, model the warehouse, and ensure security and compliance across the stack.

You will collaborate across teams to turn data requests into reliable pipelines, mentor peers, and apply AI to accelerate data tooling and insights. This role is based in Toronto with a hands-on, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building production data pipelines and platforms.
• Deep Python (PySpark) and SQL fluency, including tuning Spark jobs at scale.
• Work with distributed compute (Spark/EMR), streaming (Kinesis), and object storage (S3).
• Solid PostgreSQL fundamentals—indexing, replication, and performance tuning.
• Experience with Iceberg and Trino, or similar data lake technologies.
• Familiar with CI/CD and Terraform for deployment automation.
• Experience building AI-powered tooling for data pipelines.
• Track record of cross-team collaboration across non-shared languages.

Responsibilities

• Own the data platform end-to-end — ingestion, transformation, storage, query, access.
• Build and evolve batch and streaming pipelines using PySpark/EMR, Kinesis, Lambda.
• Model the warehouse with SCD and event tables; establish conventions.
• Collaborate with product, analytics, and ops to turn data requests into pipelines.
• Own security and compliance backbone: audit logging and access control.
• Optimize backend query performance with routing, indexing, and caching.
• Lead investigations when data infra misbehaves; implement durable fixes.
• Use AI to accelerate pipeline scaffolding and internal tooling.
• Mentor engineers and analysts on using the data platform.
