Job summary

Canada Life in Canada is seeking a Permanent Full Time Senior Counsel, Litigation, reporting to the Assistant Vice-President and Senior Counsel. The role focuses on long-term disability litigation and related life and health insurance disputes, with a geographic emphasis on Western Canada.

You will manage a portfolio of matters, provide practical risk-based advice, draft pleadings and settlement documents, attend mediations, arbitrations and court proceedings, and mentor others within the Legal

Qualifications

  • Law degree in good standing with a Canadian law society.
  • Call to the Bar in Ontario or Manitoba is required; BC admission is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal opinions and representation on long-term disability and life/health insurance disputes across Canada.
  • Manage a portfolio of litigation matters, assess risk, develop strategy, and oversee resolutions.
  • Draft pleadings, briefs, settlement documents, and other litigation materials.
  • Attend mediations, arbitrations, discoveries, and court proceedings as needed.
  • Instruct and manage external counsel across Canada and mentor team members.
